I've decided to combine the first and second stages in order to save time, especially since my design style requires stone to look good. I've completed the first home, a tree farming area for my non-indigenous saplings (dark oak and acacia), and I've started construction on the Town Hall. I'm quite happy with the open air separators I currently have between rooms.
I've decided to build a decently sized town hall. I plan to use my two-story design on the wings of the plus shape, with a higher roof peak in the center and possible a spire or tower of some sort. I also intend to turn the joints of plus sign in order to create an octagon shape, with the wings protruding from four sides.
Had time to do some more work on construction. It's not much more, but it lays the groundwork for the second story. Rather than implement the octagonal center into the first floor, I've decided to give the second floor largish balconies across each corner. I am currently undecided as to whether or not the roof should extend over these.
Ooh found this several weeks ago but didn't bother a "yay I found this post". Will be starting this, and working on this challenge along with a "List of Goals" to make it a bit more fun in case I get bored on the side.
I'm really happy as to how the architectural style is working out. I don't know how to I'm going to apply it when I get into mega-structures, or if I'm going to try to apply it at all. I also need to work out how to apply it to structures like a fort and blacksmith.
I'm not spending that much time on the challenge, but I'm really enjoying it so far.
Town Hall progress
I've decided to go with a center tower containing either the mayors office or serving as an open airflow light source type of thing.
So I just found this challenge about a week ago. I decided to start it. I had a few failed attempts. That is I started a single player and eventually got moved to multiplayer and the server reset shortly after I started. It's sad but happened. Anyways off to a running start now. We are on an FTB Direwolf20 1.5 server. for Minecraft 1.7.10. Some of you might be saying (modded what the...?) Honestly it doesn't make too much of a difference since almost everything in the mods is off limits for the time being. Everything costs a ton of iron, redstone, diamond... So that doesn't concern me too much.. That having been said. I asked some of the people on the server if they wanted to join.
Unfortunately no one on the server wants to join the challenge. That's ok. I was getting funny looks at first. They were like no that's too hard. I can't live without AE or some other misc mod. That's ok I said I will try it because I'm tired of building big cubes with doors simply because it satisfies the "space" requirements for the mod. Here's my botania cube. Here's my AE cube. Here's my thaumcraft cube...
below are pictures I've been at this all week. I just made it through stage 2.
I have decided to bend some of the rules on the front end. er I should say inturprut. First I used a piece of iron. I know the shock and dismay. I made a chisel. I honestly don't feel a restriction should be applied to a tool that has only the purpose of retexturing a block. You can do it with resource packs. Next I accept dirt from anyone on the server. my god I need dirt. I'm using it as filler and I know I could use sand or gravel or cobble but again... I'd rather dirt. Don't ask me why. I lucked out at the beginning because there was a rather large network of tunnels under where I started and I was able to collect alot of cobble without having to do much ancillary work. The stockpile requirements I'm reading them as a collection. As the steel (i'm assuming you meant iron but since I'm doing modded and we have steel... yeah I'll be doing steel) tools from stage 4 will count towards stage 4 and stage 5 requirements. I'm pretty sure that's how it's intended. either way. that's what I've decided.
A few things about the pictures. The wall isn't completed yet.. I'm only just finished with stage 2. The circles with the wall outlines are where towers are going. There's a hole area with a house and a retaining wall. I'm probably going to have to open that up because it looks odd.. however it's an interesting idea. I'm planning on putting shops down there and maybe looping through an underground market area to the other side of the district. Haven't decided yet. let me know what you think.
Upstairs, I have a meeting room, some tables for open discussion/forum and the treasure (a little bit against the rules with the iron door but whatever)
Downstairs I have a pair of offices. Not decorated yet, but will serve as licensing/zoning office and a room for staff meetings.
I finally finished stage one :D. I tried to build székely style buildings (this is my motherland). Well, it was quite hard, because I had only wood available to build, this buildings are not supposed to look so. But it's good for the first try :).
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Sorry, if I don't speak English correctly. It's not my mother language.
I have completed the town hall as well as a fairly large barn. I am unable to post pictures at the moment because I'm travelling, but they should be up in the next week or so. In the meantime, I'll be exploring some mechanisms for simple separation of adult and baby animals to give myself an easy way to spam breed and kill animals.
UPDATE: Now that I am in the iron age, I can cast portals. I was wondering if any of the people following this thread had ideas on how to create a good infrastructure for navigating the Nether and de-Nethering it to be more habitable for Overworld creatures.
