That's a chicken? I thought it was a chicken-hawk!
Got another Human Challenge update, although it's mostly just screenshots of from my continued exploration of that abandoned mine. There is a challenge-related purpose to this, though, as I have to find melon & pumpkin seeds somewhere, right?
Um...guys... O.o
Uh oh...I think I know what this is.
These little buggers scared the daylights out of me by attacking me right by my home base that I thought was completely safe & secure! D=
Uh...
Hot damn, I was right. Found my first stronghold, ever!
Spooooooooooooky!
Lame chest is lame.
Unfortunately, I ran out of food so I had to return to the city for supplies. Here's a screenshot of all the phat lewt I farmed out of the mine & stronghold before I left the first time. Ended up having to leave a lot of crap behind. I'll return for it, though, because all those fence posts will come in handy later during the challenge.
Back home, I had enough iron to complete the set of iron armor for the challenge.
I promptly returned to the mine and, after what seemed like forever exploring, I finally found a couple chests. Wish I'd found this before I left, though, because those three loaves of bread would've extended my first run a fair amount. Blue things at the top are a couple diamonds and that's lapis on the bottom.
Iron, lapis, and redstone.
I'm probably going to continue exploring the mine for a while longer and see what else I find. I'm fairly certain that I've discovered a second dirt room just beyond where I've "tamed" the mine, so this might be a couple mines that were generated intersecting...and attached to a stronghold. =| Sometimes you just get lucky, I guess.
More from the mine exploration. As it turned out, yes, the mine is a intersect of two abandoned mines and a stronghold. Pic of the second dirt room. I discovered it by accident when mining coal...fell into it and was immediately attacked by a swarm of cave spiders. =O
This lower mine also merged with a number of dungeons. The first of which was a zombie spawner.
Can just make out a web-choked hall on the right.
Hot damn that was a lot of gunpowder in that zombie chest...
Another dungeon not to far away - spiders this time - and a chest right around the corner.
Mine chest was pretty lackluster, though - six coal and some bread. v.v
Was getting really sick of cave spiders at this point - ran across five spawners so far! At least I was able to take advantage of the webs to win some unfair fights against endermen. Scored three pearls off them. Yummy!
Yet another dungeon. Zombies again. The entire room was nearly filled with gravel; had to dig out the damn spawner just to disable it.
My efforts, however, were well rewarded! Three records in one chest! Two copies of "13" and one of "cat."
And of course I was ambushed by a slime on my way back to my base camp.
Finally found a chest with melon seeds! Will save some time when I get to Stage 3.
And the mine just keeps going...but I think I'll save myself the trouble of getting across that lava and just call it quits for now. Time to head back to town and do some building!
All-in-all I made out like a bandit from exploring this mine network. Brought some stuff back to the town already, but here's some screenshots of the phat lewt I've yet to return home with.
Decided to take the scenic route home. Here's a pretty picture of a waterfall adjacent to a lavafall.
Back home, I finally got around t doing some building. Here's the first of the three homes required for Stage 2 - another apartment-style home, this one with a slightly different floorplan.
Shared living space.
Bedroom A.
Bedroom B.
Second Stage 2 home. This one is set up like a tower for a better view of the surrounding land.
Ground floor.
First floor.
Second floor.
For the final Stage 3 home I decided to do something...a little bit different. Fishermen have to live somewhere, too, right? I figured a fancy beach house would be about perfect for the friendly neighborhood fishmonger.
Interior view; ladders up and down.
A roomy upstairs (upladder?) bedroom.
And what fisherman wouldn't want to get into the minds of the fish in order to better catch them? This fisherman thinks fishing is serious business and installed a glass room under his home for a great view beneath the waves. Sadly, the squid weren't hanging about today.
Out back, there's a sweet little dock to dangle his toes in the water and cast some hooks.
His lucky fishing pole, ready and waiting for action by the dock.
Stage 2 to-do:
* Build a barracks
* Build a park
* Finish the roads
There you go again, putting everyone else to shame, FallenOne. Seriously, though, it looks awesome; even the airship you think is ugly.
Human Stage 2 Update
I finally got around to adding furniture to all of my houses so now they look a little less abandoned. Figured a good place to start the update would be with updated pics inside of all the houses.
Also got the barracks complete. I figured it should be build a bit sturdier than the houses so it's cobble rather than cobble & wood. Pic of the entrance and training ground.
Ground floor interior, showing the kitchen and mess hall.
Soup's on!
Sleeping quarters are upstairs.
The final requirement for Stage 2 was the park. I figured that anybody could grow a couple trees and slap some wooden benches down. For my island town, however, I decided instead of a park it was more appropriate to build a beach! I forgot to snap a screenshot of the build site before I started working, so here's a "before" shot of the area in creative mode.
And here's the "after" shot from my survival town map.
Took a few steps back to show the full area. Got an elevated chair for the lifeguard, a community garden nearby, and a couple shade trees. Looks like some of the local kids have already begun building sand castles!
Sand castles looked so nice I decided to get a better picture of them.
Nothing like a refreshing swim early in the morning.
With the "park" completed, stick a fork in Stage 2 because it's done! Here's an aerial view of the town showing all the structures and the roads.
Human Challenge Stage 3
I unfortunately haven't had a lot of time to actually work on this stage of the challenge. I did manage to get the green house built, though. Here's a pic from the upper floor of the nearby 'tower' house.
Inside we've got melons...
...pumpkins...
...and wheat.
I'm going to have to proceed a bit carefully from here. Because I'm building on a largish island, I may have issues with running out of space to build all of the remaining houses for the town and still have space to build all of the other awesome stuff later this stage and next. I think I'll be okay, but may have to start building things a bit closer together. So far my townsfolk have been building a bit sprawled out...apparently they've never heard of city planning!
I love this whole thing, as well as the city construction challenge. I finally have some kind of goal to work on when I lay Minecraft, since I'm not creative enough to think of stuff myself. I'm actually going to do as many as possible on the same world, traveling a good distance from the spawn for each so I don't overlap. That way I can keep track of my the world save easily. I'm on stage 3 of Neanderthal right now, the last thing I need to do for it is the shaman's tent. I'm not sure what I'll do about the ports many races need if they aren't near the water. I actually got an organizer program, my life organized or something like that, to help keep track of the task list.
I've posted a few human challenge up dates here before, but i have a bigger update! On the SMP server i play on someone mentioned going off and starting over because they were bored with never dieing and having built everything. So i directed them to this thread! we now have 4 people that have traveled together to start the orc challenge! we basically dug a hole, then everyone logged.... after traveling 3 minecraft days. but I shall get screenies and show them as we go!
the orc challenge makes no sence....
you cant craft but need to make a painting,
cant bread but need to bread 4 wolves
cant craft but need to have sword all time
actually it just says you cant craft boats. but yeah the breeding thing is .... eh? i'm going with once i have some wolves, I can figure out how to breed them.
Stormrage Keep is awesome, FalenOne, you put us all to shame. I don't really even know where to begin with mine to make it impressive enough to post pics now.
Got this stuff done, though - Human Challenge Stage 3 update.
Finished the last of the things needed for the original town for Stage 3; haven't started working on the castle or royal city, yet. So far I've been able to keep my personal goal of building all of the homes with at least somewhat different floor plans; and they're all furnished, too!
The first of the new homes is for the resident mushroom farmer. He lives a little on the outskirts of town in a smallish shack.
For company, he keeps a pet pig named Bianca. Bianca believes she was a monkey in a former life. Didn't you know that all pigs believe in reincarnation?
Bedroom.
Mushroom farm in the basement.
Second home is yet another 2-bedroom apartment for miners.
Shared living space.
Bedroom A.
Bedroom B.
Third home is doubles as a bakery. With all the mining and farming going on, I'm sure the residents appreciate the new smells of fresh-baked bread.
Inside the shop.
Store room. (Note that there's no cows on my island. I would have made some cake, but the milk would have to be imported. )
Living space upstairs.
A small balcony.
The final home belongs to the much-needed blacksmith!
Inside the shop - a multitude of iron tools and armor for sale.
The workroom and forge - complete with lava, a cauldron of water, and an iron anvil.
Living quarters are upstairs.
Next up, the sheep farm! Got black, purple, blue, and red sheep (also still have white sheep in the barn built during Stage 2).
Finally, although it's listed in the castle section of the stage requirements, I figured it was fine to lump the cobble and wood requirements in with the other town goals since I was already building the stockpile here. So, here you go - all the cobble and wood gathered.
Well, that's it here for now. My next update will feature beginning pics of my castle...whenever I get that worked on.

*Sigh* What part of "it is being re-written" do you not understand...? It was written by a German person on our team, he is in the progress of re-writing it and adding more stages on...
And again, the spoilers are either a browser or forums problem, it's working fine for me.

Here is a chart to show you what you can use on different stages
1. Wood
2. Stone
3. Iron 4. Gold/Redstone
5. Diamond/Obsidian 6. Buckets and Shears don't count as "iron" items. 7. Emeralds can not be used until you can use iron.
From what I can tell, no they don't. Realistically, this means you can get to the nether as soon as you can use stone tools...though I imagine it could be pretty dangerous without armor of some sort.
Also, the thread's been pretty quiet lately. I hope it's because everyone else has been busily building away like I have.

Never mind I got the banner to work. Also do shears and buckets count as iron tools?
It's a problem with Internet Explorer, unfortunately. Try using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome.
