Hi everyone,
I am working on this challenge, and thought I would post my progress. I completed the wooden age, but didn't post anything on it. I am using mods, and I play with the peaceful pack, and harder peaceful mods, so I know I am not completely following the rules listed. Let me know if I should stop posting.
Anyway, I want to thank Vaaldeth for his videos, as they are helping me with ideas. I have just now completed the stone age, and thought I would post some pictures here.

Spawn Point
My Castle Tower
Wheat and some flax growing
Hope I did this right, first time posting, could you tell? Will post more progress later, now that I figured out how to do this.

You are very welcome! I'm glad if they can inspire even one person. =)
And I see that influence in the corner tower! <3
Anyway, it looks good keep it up.
P.S. My next Castle Challenge episode will be out soon, I've been busily working for the last month on my latest Space Engineers RP episode. My first space battle, almost a 30 minute episode. =P
Objective:
Starting with nothing but your hands and will, progress through various stages to construct the ultimate stronghold to defend your spawn point! Plot:
You awaken in a strange and wonderful land with no memory of how you got there. You realize that the place you first opened your eyes has some sort of mystical power, power strong enough to draw you back to it whenever you are at the gates of death. Though you do not understand the power of that one special spot, you decide to protect it and honor it as hallowed ground for all the times it has saved you from being lost forever to the void. And so, with only the strength of your hands and the sense of purpose in your heart, you set out to construct the ultimate fortification around your spawn and thus create the heart of your future empire. TIP:Plan ahead! Your castle is going to become larger as you go along, so make sure that you leave yourself room to expand. It might also be helpful to sketch out your castle in advance.
Rules:
1) Play on at least Easy.
2) Start a new survival world. Be sure to mark your spawn point so you can find it later! Your castle will enclose this vital and mystical block and protect it from all the hostile foes of the outside world.
3) Your spawn point must be protected from mobs at all times. Therefore, you first task is to build a temporary shelter around your spawn before nightfall on the first day.
4) The block you spawn on can be replaced, but it's location must be protected.
5) Follow the rules for each stage, and do not progress to the next stage until all requirements for the current stage have been met.
6) The requirements for each stage replace the requirements of the stage that came before it. In other words, the stone wall in Stage 2 should replace your log wall from Stage 1. As a variant, you can also reinforce your log wall with stone/cobble stone and build an outer wall from stone/cobble as per Stage 2 requirements.
7) Towns can be raided for supplies, but the buildings themselves do not count towards the requirements for each stage.
8)Items found in dungeon chests can be used during any stage.
9) You must always carry a sword (i.e. have it in your quickbar). If your sword breaks, immediately cease all activity and craft a new one.
10) Post screenshots to verify the completion of each stage.

Looks amazing. I am definitely going to try this. I'll use my personal favorite seed -5182478429461981379 in it. That way I have a very flat area around my spawn, making building this keep a lot easier. I'll post screenshots as it progresses.
Edit: Btw, does having a bonus chest go against the rules? If so, I'll get rid of that.

The iron age is definitely going to take me awhile. Vaaldeth, would you mind telling me what mod you used to get the shelves in the blacksmith shop? I've tried googling it, but can't find those. They look very nice.

It's a challenge, but play the way you want. I am using about 35 mods, and use items that the game gives me from those mods. It's how I enjoy playing. Go for it! And glad to see some more participation.

I believe that's Bibliocraft. Honestly I might actually use it.

Thanks, guess you can tell what I was working on this morning! I will be finishing up my blacksmith shop, and start expanding my wall in the next couple of days. I had taken a couple of days off from the actual castle challenge, and made an underground trail to the next island over, (about 500 blocks away), and accomplished that, so I can have access to cows and wild horses (Mo' Creatures), and found a lava source for the smeltery. My castle is on an island, and I have had to add lots of dirt to make it larger.
My fort (note the 1-block gap in the outer edge of the top of the wall, both for spider-proofing and easy shooting of mobs that hug the wall):
My keep:
Inside the Keep:
My supplies and treasure:
My farm and animal pen (I had Hunger Overhaul running, which disabled wooden and stone hoe crafting, so I'm gonna have to cheat one in via NEI to achieve complete toolsets. Iron, gold, and diamond hoes shouldn't be a problem however):

Nicely done! I am finding that the iron age is taking alot of time, I don't mind, but my updates won't be very quick. Plus, I didn't realize that you had to make two walls, and because my spawn was on the beach of an island, I am having to literally build my land! I took a few days off from building to go exploring, but i will get back to it soon. Good luck on your iron age!
Finally finished the iron age. Just a couple more buildings and some more treasure, and I'll be outta the gold age and into the diamond age. Then I'll be finished. I'm planning on adding a small tavern outside my base once the challenge buildings are made. I'm planning on adding a kennel.
My second guard tower is finally done, same as the other one.
Expanded my wheat farm to exactly 20 wheat.
My barracks/armory (will eventually have all four armor stands outfitted with iron armor):
My blacksmith, made using Tinker's Construct and Bibliocraft:
My overall fort, note the banner added by Gany's Surface posted on the top:
My third and final animal pen, housing a pair of pigs:
Another first timer here and I'm doing this challenge aswell, but something went wrong with the wooden age pictures...
But I do have a question about the stone age:
Is it necessary to put the wheat farm, the animal pens and the guard tower inside the main wall?
The guard tower must be on the perimeter of the main wall. The main wall must enclose the keep and all other buildings. So yes, the animal pens must be inside the wall at all times. The farm should be, but I doubt it's a major requirement.

Alright, it'll take some time but i'll make another wall surrounding everything.
Thanks by the way!
Don't mention it. I'm happy to help. Gold Age screenies are coming up soon though. After that, it's just a little tweaking, and then Diamond Age will also be complete.
The Guest Bedroom:
The Kennels with my dogs Edgar and Gavin(Edgar means protector of the good and gavin means white hawk of battle):
My Wizard's Tower is now complete (may also add a Nether portal inside it for the Diamond Age):
My chapel, the Church of the Holy Apple (A toned-down, smaller reference to the Yogscast church):

Good seeing all the updates!
Yeah, I'm finishing up on the Diamond Age requirements. All I really needed from the gold age onwards was some extra storage and treasure, a port( did cheat resources in to do it, as I was going off a really cool, yet resource-intensive design on YT), and a gatekeeper's house. I even managed to have enough diamonds to replace my spawn block with a diamond block, and did the rest of the bonus challenges. I'm going to actually do a stable as well, and since I have Growthcraft Community Edition and Agricraft installed(I'm gonna put in Pam's Harvestcraft as well for some extra food), might as well add a tavern, which may or may not double as an inn.

Hi guys! Decided I'd try to do this since I'm kinda tired of building towns over and over. It's a nice break.
Before I delve into the post, I'll preface it by telling you I spawned on an island in this world. I figured an island wasn't the greatest place to try and build a castle and aside from that I loved the world. So I simply chose a better spot to build and went on from there. Obviously I'm not sure where my spawn point is now, only knowing it's on an island west of where I'm living. Aside from that, enjoy the pictures!
[Sidenote: I'm also allowing myself to craft with items I find in villages and other chests. This is how I got the storage crates (planks surrounding a bottle/bucket/can of creosote. Put those planks in a chest pattern and you have the best thing ever).]
Alright! Start the post!
So, as stated I started on an island. I got over to the nearest continent and walked around until I found something I liked. Ultimately I settled with a plains biome next to a village. Once I got settled and officially started, I began collecting eucalyptus and oak to build my first castle out of. You can see the wall of the keep in the back there.
I forgot to take a picture of the keep itself, but it's there. Nothing fancy. Two small rooms, a door, a bed, and lots of crates. After I was done building I went ahead and corralled some pigs. A fourth one would join us by choice. He just walked in the walls one day and despite the massive creeper hole never left. I think he likes the pink.
I also got a wheat, potato, and carrot farm going next to a nearby lake I chose to enclose.
Item requirements...
...and proof I've got more than enough saplings.
And that's about it. Already started stone so it shouldn't be too long before I post pics of that as well. Just need to work on the keep and get some roofs over my animals.

I don't mean to be unapproachable. I accept critiques and suggestions well, so please, by all means, make as many suggestions as you would like.
Can you have the nether portal before the diamond age?
That's open to interpretation. I think the construction list for each age is meant to be progressive, so in my opinion the spirit of the challenge is to not build a structure until you reach the age it is listed in. Otherwise you could have built a portal in the iron age.
Happy New Year!
Here is my latest in the castle building challenge, officially starting the Iron Age with - as is now custom - the Blacksmith!
Hi challengers!
Here is my latest Castle Challenge episode, this time I work on some of the smaller projects of the Iron age.

That's open to interpretation. I think the construction list for each age is meant to be progressive, so in my opinion the spirit of the challenge is to not build a structure until you reach the age it is listed in. Otherwise you could have built a portal in the iron age.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
