Hi! New here, and I just had to try this out. Just completed the wood age!
I spawned on a branch of a large oak tree on the edge of a jungle, and I decided to protect this branch as well as preserving (most of) the tree it was attached to. I built my keep around it, and made a design in the floor to mark the spot (the log in the middle of the x is my spawn point):
My keep has four floors but is kind of funky looking at this point, I'm afraid. There will be some home improvement in the next age, though!
In addition to the top floor with the spawn point, I have a bedroom:
"kitchen" with stove, crafting table and two treasure chests, one reserved for required stuff:
and a ground floor, now only containing the tree trunk with ladder, a door, and a crafting table.
My courtyard is rather small, enclosing the hilltop the tree happened to be on (I lucked out and spawned on some very rough terrain):
My farm can be seen there, with something like 12 or 13 wheat total.
And, though pigs are abundant in the swamp at the foot of the hill, carrots aren't easy to come by so I ended up traveling a half-day's journey to find sheep (and cows for my leather shoes):
This age took approximately ten in-game days and one death: when I discovered the swamp with its abundant pigs and slimes and failed to notice the latter until I was surrounded.

Really like that wall, Zalga! The rest is nice as well. And plentyoffish has some nice stuff too, good progress. I would join in the race for diamond age, but I get distracted too easily.
I am currently finishing my Iron age wall and the towers. After that I just need a courtyard and a well, and I'm on to gold! I'll get some pictures up soon.
Ok, here is attempt 2. Figured I needed to restart because I had already started the unauthorized use of stone tools in the other world.
I spawned in a swamp near a pool of lava which I didn't have time to fill completely before nightfall, and which then set my first shelter on fire during the night. I patched the wall with the only thing I had on hand: my crafting table. After that rough start, things went fairly smoothly and I was able to build a much more comfortable abode of birch and oak, with no deaths at all this time.
The keep:
The view from the roof of (log) wall and wheat farm. I spawned near a pond this time, which made for much more productive farming:
The animal pens. I was lucky enough to find two species nearby:
The spawn point room. The stone is the spawn point - the ground used to be higher. Ceiling is two blocks above:
Well, I've decided to go through this challenge, and have almost finished the age of wood. All that is lacking is to finish up my (ambitiously large) wall, and to finish lighting up the interior of my stronghold fields.
My game is modded (Thaumcraft 3, Ars Magica, Bibliocraft, Xeno's Reliquary), though much of the content will be barred until post diamond age, with some elements showing up earlier. I may "cheat" and use gold nuggets in making wands in the iron age, though I haven't decided yet.
I've started the challenge unfortunately I forgot to post anything about the wooden age and I've already started tearing down the walls for the new one.

I'm a Slime Archer a slime that pratices archery what is cooler than that.
Lots of changes coming in the Iron Age - I'm excited! I do wish I had someone to play with who has more of an eye for design, but it's my first castle so I'm trying to not be so hard on myself.
Still playing on the work computer, so still no texture pack (I work from home, and promise I don't play during work hours!!!). We were going to buy a new computer with our tax return, but we decided to buy a house instead! Alas, no texture pack in the near future....
Sooo...I'm brand new, and decided to give this a go. So far, I've completed the wood age and have moved on to the stone age. Pretty sure I'll be here for awhile.
Here are the wood age pictures:
I originally misread the instructions and built the wall with a mix of planks and logs. Then a friend pointed out what the rules actually said, and I was....unhappy. :-/

I translated it.

...actually, created is a bit much.... Thought of. That's more accurate.

On to the stone age!
Wall needs to be logs, bro.
Thanks! I look forward to your progress.
This sucks because I just completed a massive stone wall around the whole swamp. Oh well. Restarting.
Not a bro, though.

I hope that's ok.
Well I'm in the Gold Age and there are three people who have finished it already... I believe.
