but really, i found a good trap to use is a trap where, the person walks through the hall, and then steps on the pressure plate, activating a mechanism that makes doors unhopenable, by glitching them. then, theyre trapped! :biggrin.gif: or, you could utilize the machine that makes it so that when you open a door, it activates redstone. and what about fishing rods? if you havent tried getting a partner in a boat, then building a 1x1 tower to the sky, then attaching the buoy to the boat, and pulling it up, you have to. you get SERIOUS airtime.
also, i love how this is one of the few topics that is actually productive.
I noticed something for a vertical launch cannon in this thread a while ago, and I'm sure someone tried to make one and probably succeeded but I thought I'd share whatever information I could
It's literally just a wall infront of the cannon (Take note this is a west facing cannon.)
fairly easy to build
And it goes straight up, so with enough sneakyness a floating base could be cannoned. Build the cannon high enough up and prepare a hole in the floating base and launch right underneath it and do your worst
One thing you might need to prepare for, though, is buckets of magma being dumped from said fort.
Otherwise...
I do believe this was stated in the first post, in fact. But the vertical cannon could annihilate air troops who strayed too close! This is still an awesome idea. (When I toy with cannons, the result is usually a giant crater where the cannon was)
EDIT: On another note, do you think this thread should be recommended to the stickied useful link compendium?

Ark, I'm planning an RP server with Nations. If players start immediately with war, that would not be fun AT ALL. There needs to be a cause, such as someone killing another over TNT, or someone tnt'ing another person's house.
If it starts off with immediate wars, no one will have time to mine for anything.
Just think about it.

You think if you use stairs going up and forward, you could fire it in a 45 degree angle? (artillary strikes anyone?)
By the way, if I can pull off an artilary strike, your trenches and walls will be all for naught... probably.
Tried it. Didnt work.
One could hide pitfalls with Reeds as well. Or a trench
Are you sure that someone would fall for such a trap? Reeds don't blend very well with other blocks, except with custom textures or other reeds. Perhaps these could be installed into 2 meter wide walls of reeds, with pitfalls hidden inside?

Another vertical cannon, but much more powerful. Uses 56 :tnt:, but can be made with less:

Ahhh very nice, see I was trying to find ways to launch a person via minecarts which is harder than it seems but if this could be turned into a more compact version, several could easily be set up with a competent team and the base could be reduced to floating ruins in no time it's just a matter of getting the materials

Wait, if this is a BASE we're talking about, they probably would have at least a couple buckets of magma ,blocks of tnt, and plenty of arrows. Unless none of the sentries have the render distance set to far, the fate you would be trying to inflict on the base might happen to your cannon. Unless you can build a cannon so lightning quick that no guard could react in time, I'm afraid that tactic might result in failure. Perhaps you could make some magma/tnt proof (obsidian works, but is hard to get) barrier to protect the cannon while you create and load it. A small hole in the roof could be made whenever you wanted to fire the cannon, though. That might work, and be bombproof. Of course they could send down troops through streams of water, so you might want to bring a good group of soldiers with you when building the cannon. Water has negative effects on redstone, though, so you might want to be careful! Keep these precautions in mind while building said cannon, and you should be able to nuke floating bases with ease!

Why not build you V-Cannon in a hill, under the base? Just bust open the roof and fire. Although I don't know why I'm helping on this subject. That cannon kinda scares me.

Well, for every defense, there is an offense created to counter that defense, and for every offense, a defense is created. Once you know about a certain tactic, it is usually easy to come up with a countertactic, and this loop repeats until the end of warfare. One tactic that could stop the hill cannon disguise would be to have scouts roam around the ground, looking for enemy activity, or to have water come out of the murder holes when inactive to prevent tnt from harming blocks and disable redstone wiring of the offending cannon. If anyone tries to come up through these water holes, just pull off a jack-and-the-beanstalk and watch them fall to their deaths.

Very valid point. At heart I'm a Sky Pirate and blowing a hole im my ship worries me. But your right, It's better to know and plan than have Tnt shoved in your rear.
@Obolisk0430
Yeah... it might be a little more dangerous to travel topside [or even underground] at night... but we are warriors :wink.gif:
Just have to watch out... because I realized that monsters might give away our position to the enemy, or could even be used by the enemy [as well as ourselves]
Also... it's definitely possible to make cannons that fire over walls, just saying :smile.gif:
@CrazyLemon64
As for your reed idea, it's been discussed before, the phenomenon is interesting, but gimmicky at best.
As for the cactus and netherstone wall... I don't like it because of how easy it can be destroyed.
Master switches for traps might be valuable to keep people from igniting your traps prematurely...
Using reeds as makeshift quick remove windows is a great idea, in some applications.
@Sento
Air bases only serve their purpose in a deathmatch mode where your life is the most important. Otherwise we use ground bases for games where land is the most important, and underground bases for games where resources are most important. Air bases don't hold land, and don't hide you, but they protect your life.
@1138_ringer
Good to see you here again! Using fishing rods as grappling hooks or cranes will be interesting! In fact we should probably test soon what happens when you use a fishing rod on a player...
@Sellout
Not to knock your hard work but there are numerous vertical launch cannons out there. However... that one seems to use fairly little tnt, that you originally made.
Minecarts no longer work as ejector seats, we already established this earlier in the thread.
@Peekayer / Everyone
Yes... it would be really silly for one team to start out with like 10 full stacks of tnt, while another team starts from scratch. It unbalances the game, makes it less fun, and is overall not honorable at all...
@CaveHybrid
If anyone's ready for a massive war, it's us! But I haven't even fought another player yet =/
@DiEvAl
That 56 tnt cannon is cool, but it's not useful for war. It takes too much tnt and shoots the player way above where they would need to be, unless the base was built basically at height limit. Also, 56 tnt to launch only one person, and the time it takes for realoading would make basically any vertical transport cannon very inefficient. I'm thinking we should just wait for flying machines.

1.Its impossible to get that much TNT legitimately.
2. You will die from the blast and/or the fall.
