Hi guys, when you update your Minecraft multiplayer server, does it automatically update your Minecraft world as well?
I'm aware that new biomes and buildings and stuff won't appear in already loaded chunks. If I understand correctly, if you load new chunks they'll start to appear. But what about less obvious updates? Like in 1.14.4 there are some changes to villagers...
Villagers now stock more items
Villagers will now remember their gossip after becoming a Zombie Villager
Improved performance of Villager pathfinding
Villagers can now work without also restocking at the same time
Do these changes affect Villagers in my currently loaded chunks? If not, then what about the new suspicious stew that now gives you night vision instead of speed? Can I make that in my already loaded chunks without any issues?
All of those sound like game mechanics things, those would change when you update.
Things that are stored in the save file like what trades individual villagers have and what clothes they wear probably wouldn't change for existing villagers but newly bred villagers would have any updates.
Updated villagers probably won't automatically have more items in stock until they restock next time.
Existing zombified villagers probably won't have any memory of gossip but old villagers that get zombified after the update ought to.
Okay so must things like bug fixes and stuff won't cause an issue but if it is anything structural or based on the chunk generating, it obviously will require the loading of new chunks basically?
Yes, anything that is actually stored in the save game rather than being generated when needed will stay the same unless something happens to change it.
I loaded a 1.12.2 world into a 1.14.4 test server, and villagers who had not previously been traded with became unemployed (they lost their default profession), while those that had been traded with retained their profession and trades. The unemployed villagers will get a new profession when they detect a workstation (Lectern=Librarian, Composter=Farmer, etc.).
And, curiously, my old and no longer valid underground iron farm seemed to be considered a village when the world first loaded (logged into the world to find a raid in progress), but after defeating the raid and getting Bad Omen, visiting the villagers in the farm did not trigger additional raids.
So it seems the old door based village status was retained long enough to trigger a raid, but was subsequently lost and the iron farm was no longer considered to be a village. After playing awhile and visiting the villager area of the farm several times, I dropped a Lectern in the villager pod, and as soon as a villager detected it and became a librarian, another raid was triggered (actually a bunch of raIds, since I was playing in hard mode).

Just testing.
