This just happened to me!!! I started picking up some flowers but my inventory was full and since that 1 egg I just picked up was the least I was worried about getting so I threw it, the game lagged and when it stopped I seen 2 chicks then I turned around and seen to more.. Now I wish I kept that egg... A few other rare things have happened to me one time while I was on my Xbox minecraft world I seen a pink sheep. Also while I was on an xbox creative world I found a charged creeper. Oh and another time on PC I found another pink sheep
It doesn't have anything to do with that particular egg. An egg is just an egg is just an egg. When you throw an egg, there is a 1:8 chance that it hatches a chicken. If it hatches a chicken, there is a further 1:32 chance (so, 1:256 overall) that it will hatch four instead of one. It's as simple as that.
There is a rare change eggs will hatch chicks when thrown. There is an even rarer chance of hatching four chicks. I think this has only happened to me two or three times.
Yeah. 1:256. It's never happened to me and I pride myself on mah chicken farms. I'm like pepperidge farms except for minecraft... but still no quadruple chickens. SADFACE.

It does say "one to four" instead of "one or four" but I'm pretty sure they meant the latter, and the 1/32 chance is if any spawned at all, not a 1/32 chance each of 1,2,3,4)

You think magic isn't real? Consider this: for every person, there is a sentence -- a series of words -- which has the power to destroy them.
Baseball, then Minecraft.
If the Wiki is correct this hasn't ever been changed:

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
