Having first played without the hunger bar in Alpha, and having played with it now. I like it. It gives me a reason to live off of the land, to build farms, and cattle ranches. I think the hunger bar adds a lot of purpose to the game.
Skeleton fighting also go from a tactical maneuver to a quick-- and much less entertaining-- affair.
This part almost made me laugh on the inside... Yes its less entertaining, I think a lot of people including myself would find it even less entertaining if we couldn't sprint, they already knock you back hard.
Just go back to the version 1.7 if your that annoyed, why am I the one usually to never complain about updates... Let them make the game how they want, its they'er game and that's fine with me, i'm enjoying the roleplay things they have been adding.

I don't mind the hunger bar. Though it kinda reminds me of Unreal World. I wish Minecraft had an extreme survival mode like Unreal World. That would be epic. Imagine being in Finland in the dark ages with just the clothes on your back, an axe, and maybe a little food. Winter is coming, you have to build a shelter, successfully hunt and/or gather food, avoid invading vikings, and a bunch of other craziness. In that game, you will die. Play that game and then tell me the hunger bar in Minecraft is annoying.
For starters, minecraft isn't meant only for mining, hunting, and building. Its meant for whatever the hell you want to do. And if its really that big of a deal to stop and eat for 2 seconds every 5-10 minutes, than consider downgrading your minecraft so you can play it the way you want; they didn't add that to the client for nothing you know...
Honestly, it kinda does take away from the gameplay to eat every three minutes. I mean, it's just a big interruption to the game. If you've ever eaten before, you go extremely slow, your screen is partially obscured, and it makes a loud, obnoxious sound.
The hunger bar not only makes the game better, it improved combat mechanics by a lot. PvP consisted of clicking without the hunger bar. With it in the game, you can now land critical hits and run away if needed. And if you think running is overpowered, than you my friend have never heard of Speed II.
Ooh, now you get to click and sprint. Isn't that delightful?
On top of this, just because you don't sprint doesn't make you good at minecraft. There is no such thing at being good at minecraft because you can turn your gamemode to peaceful and never die besides falling in lava. There are a lot of aspects to be considered good, but no one is really good. Some people, for example, are good at building, others may be good at pvp, but that's just how it is.
That's not really the point I was trying to convey. I was referring to the old mechanic, in which you would have to eat as a punishment for taking damage.
If you want to go and say the hunger bar is horrible. Go right ahead, go and download an older version of the game so you wont have to deal with it. After you've played the game like that for a while, you will soon realize that the game is way better with the hunger bar than without it.\ Problem is, buddy, I have played MC for a freaking long time, and that's why I don't like it. It's added almost nothing to the experience, and comes at this enormous price. You'll probably see what I mean at some point.
This thread has been made by someone who tried to make fun of people who "couldn't comprehend dubstep." Your username suits you perfectly. I agree hunger is annoying, but not in the way you're describing it.
That has to be the most obvious and worst contradiction I've ever seen on a forum. Either this thread is just a joke or you have a serious thinking deficiency.
Surely even you can understand the difference between an actual challenge and tedium.
This part almost made me laugh on the inside... Yes its less entertaining, I think a lot of people including myself would find it even less entertaining if we couldn't sprint, they already knock you back hard.

I notice that a lot of posts mention going back to 1.7 (one post even mentions 1.7.4, as if the changes only started in 1.7.5 or in the snapshots for 1.8); surely they are referring to Beta 1.7.3, not release 1.7.x (there was also never a Beta 1.7.4, hence part of the confusion that is apparent), since I still play in 1.6.4 and you most definitely have a hunger bar in that version (which also introduced the healing takes hunger mechanic, which doesn't bother me much at all; I often only eat because I'd otherwise starve, not because I have to heal, due to good combat techniques; also, by eating when my hunger is low, I completely fill my saturation meter (40 total saturation+hunger points), which lasts much longer than if you eat when you are down only 1-2 hunger points; even a golden carrot restores less saturation). I haven't noticed any difference in 1.7.x either, except sprint-jumping drains the proper amount of hunger now (the Wiki suggests that 5 jumps should drain one hunger point but in 1.6.x you can do about 17, not that I sprint-jump much; I even fixed this myself with little noticeable effect unless I want to quickly go down a 1x2 tunnel, which drains hunger like nothing else).

I find the hunger bar to be a balanced and well implemented gameplay element.
It didn't make much sense before when eating would recover health, I mean,
eating doesn't recover wounds instantly. Replacing that with potions made a lot of sense,
which begged the question, what do we do with food now?
It sounds like you should be playing creative mode...

There is no such thing as something that does not exist.
I'm completely disagreed.
I'm don't care about to stop for a second to eat, it makes more purpose in minecraft. This game is not just to build, hunting or mining, its also to live, to live from the land you stepped, it gives me more reason to play minecraft.
If you don't like it, you may go and type this command : /effect @p 23 1000000 20
If you want to stop the health bar regenerating, just type this command : /gamerule naturalRegeneration False
If you to fill your health bar, just type this command : /effect @p 6, 2 times as you throw your food
Sprint is not an ability that given if you eat your food, just don't sprint if you don't like it
Creeper can be killed without sprinting
Skeleton can be killed with bows...
If you don't get what I'm saying, don't read it, but one thing.
Why would you complaining about this when you had XBOX version?
Just downgrade if you don't like it, or be used with it
All of your reason is just to make you trapped on the past, when will you see the future? and get used with something you had right now?
Though I don't like the hunger-bar very much but its good, it adds a little realism to the game, its what that gives you a reason to farm crops and cattle. If you don't like minecraft, don't play it but at least don't discuss your complains here. And after reading your thoughts on the "ender-switch" and "The Caverns" dimension and other ridiculously innovative suggestions, I think you should keep them to yourself (or maybe email those ideas to Mojang :D).
Lol, man you just post everything that comes to your mind, don't tell us these ideas here.
Tip: if you are playing on a survival island, skyblock or just plain out of food. Make a boat and sit in it while you wait for crops to grow, you wont starve to death / use hunger.
I don't mind the addition of hunger as it does add another element to survival, I do dislike that it is tied to stamina and would prefer stamina to have its own bar and mechanics. And as posted by someone earlier mod makers out there have taken the hunger bar and ran with ideas of thirst bars, etc which are interesting and I wouldn't mind seeing implemented and done right.
And it looks like you've an old frustration with the hunger bar, look:
Taken from the topic "Fast Paced" Mode:
2: The hunger bar is removed.
The infamous hunger bar is known for nearly ruining survival mode by evening out food consumed for all players. Basically, independent of the player's skill, you need to eat a certain amount of food in order to survive. Eating food should be a penalty for getting hurt, not simply for existing. With the hunger bar, sprinting would also be removed. This is no big loss, considering #1 on this list.
The hunger bar is probably the worst thing ever to happen to Minecraft. It is a nerf on everything and quite frankly is just terrible. I'll show you how.
Our first reason is the fact that it's a constant annoyance. I don't mean to say that you have to eat every two seconds in the game, but just having it there, forever ticking down, sucks. While you're in the middle of doing more enjoyable things (hunting, mining, stuff that the game is actually meant for) you can't help but be distracted by that stupid little ticking time bomb in the corner of the screen. It really takes away any serenity and relaxation that was in the game before.
Secondly, the hunger bar just makes the game way too easy. The health bar constantly regenerates instead of only regenerating when you feed yourself. Also, it gives you the ability to sprint, which is extremely overpowered in combat. Creeper can be defeated very easily by simply sprint-attacking them, which will knock them far back and defuse them. Skeleton fighting also go from a tactical maneuver to a quick-- and much less entertaining-- affair.
Lol! "It makes the game way too easy"; "It really takes away the serenity and relaxation"; "It gives you the ability to sprint"; "--much less entertaining affair"!
I think you should uninstall the game, if you hate that hunger bar that much then why play the game. And you play the Xbox edition, we PC users have that bar since the Alpha version. And if you think the games too easy, play in hardcore mode but please don't babble about your crap here. I think you should read the response of some of the users. If you hate it that much and still want to play the game then create your own game, we're not here to listen to your weird ideas.

If you complain about any updates, then don't update your game. Change your game version back to whatever you want. Mojang has the right to not update Minecraft but they are updating Minecraft, be thankful for what you have

I think OP was silly and rambling.
However, I disagree with people saying "if you don't like the game, don't play" or "just play previous versions" or "play a different mode." You could use these arguments to shut down any criticism of anything in the game, not just weird rants like this one. I don't think there's anything wrong with critiquing a game that you enjoy, but that has some aspect that you think could be improved. I don't think this particular critique is very good, but I don't think such responses are very useful either.
As for the hunger bar itself, I think it's a clever mechanic. I do think it could be re-balanced a bit to make the game more challenging. I have to admit it is pretty easy to secure lots of food in the game. Going out with a stone sword and hunting cows early in the game can easily get you a stack of steak or more, and that will last you for quite a while -- you don't even really need to farm to keep yourself fed. (Though building farms can be fun, of course. Still, from a survival perspective, it's not really necessary, and I do find that a bit annoying and too "easy".)
While it may not be perfectly balanced, though, I think the hunger bar system is still more fun than the instant health-restoring food we had before. The new system is more interesting, more logical, and less irritating... I like that potions took over the instant-healing role.
One idea for a sort of "middle ground" could be to make most food items stack to 16, rather than 64 -- like eggs and snowballs. That would make it a bit harder to carry giant quantities of food with you wherever you went, without going back to the painful "each food item takes a full slot" system of yesteryear.
And you play the Xbox edition, we PC users have that bar since the Alpha version
Thanks.
sorry, but what!? I've been playing since Alpha, and there wasn't any form of hunger bar until Beta 1.8 along with sprinting, Endermen, Silverfish, strongholds, The End... I could go on but I won't. So this leaves me with three things: You're using hyperbole, you're lying or you can't remember and I really hope it's the first or third one because if there's one type of person I hate it's someone who lies about something they have no idea what they're talking about
Threads like this are exactly why I hate most of the Minecraft community. No one can ever be happy, and they always feel the need to express it by creating a new thread. It's not going to get removed just because you hate it. Stop whining, and live with it.
This, and many other complaint threads, sicken me.
This is a uniquely terrible reply. Your attitude is that no one should "complain", and a complaint is of course simply to suggest that things should be different than they are. So your post boils down to "No one should suggest a change to Minecraft". That's what a forum is for, for people to express their thoughts on a topic.
And your suggestion that people should not create new threads is just bizarre. As though all new suggestions or thoughts should only be replies to some mega catch-all thread. Individual threads is how we have indexing, searching and organization.

i know i posted on this thread but am going to re-support why the hunger bar is awful.
ok for all the fan boys saying that it is great and that not having it is dumb please take this into consideration.
The hunger bar, so there are many reason why this was not a good addition to the game. for starters it changed the face of the game, it added a feature that didn't need to be added the reason why is combat/ the old health system worked fine (and at times even better) for example were going to use bread, back in the old system it would heal you 2.5 hearts no stacking no health re-gen. todays system bread heals 2.5 hunger bar points which if used the right way can heal you 9.5 hearts + more. ya and for those who say the old was system was op...
next, what really should have happened was make it OPTIONAL. example your going to start a new world you go to the game plus menu and has a button that says hunger off or hunger on. now if you selected hunger off you would have no hunger AND NO SPRINTING so you don't have to deal with the hunger bar but the down fall is there will be no sprinting (a pro for a con) but if you put hunger on you have to mange your hunger bar but you get to sprint (a pro for a con)
i could go on and on but i wont but have a nice day
