So I don't know about you all, but when my server tells me it can't connect me because it took too long to log in, I don't know if that means I'm doing something wrong, the host is doing something wrong, or if the client is being silly.
Is there any way to clarify which is which? A manpage somewhere or something?
EDIT: Here's a list! It'll grow as we get responses.
[*:2565a8zz]Failed to connect to the server
Connection timed out: Connect
-This one is the one that means the server is offline!
[*:2565a8zz]Unknown host (host's IP address)
-This one means that the IP address you entered doesn't actually lead to a thing... sorry.
[*:2565a8zz]Internal client error: java.net.Connect.Exception: connection has timed out
-I think this is just a matter of java dying while one is on/trying to connect to a server...

I don't like trolls, but I don't mind gnolls.
I play on normal, but don't play normally.
I can't think of another reversal of expectations, but I think I can... reverse your expectations?
If you're not whitelisted, it will say <Name> kicked by console. If it says blahblah: connect, it means the server is down. If it says recv fail, it may mean you were recently on the server and it d/c'd, or that the server is again, down.

There's a few more I can't remember right now.
Bad login and [something]JAVAexceptions[Something else]
Bad login-Can't connect to minecraft servers. Not server itself, but minecraft.net
[something]JAVAexceptions[Something else]-Server has been shut down.
EDIT-Oh, and Unknown host means the server doesn't exist :tongue.gif:
I've run into Unknown host where it actually does exist, but my DNS wasn't changing the nameserver to IP.
If someone could post the exact layout of the messages for some of the ones they've seen, that'd be great! If other people are wondering the same thing, this could be a FAQ of sorts.

when i changed version (such 1.7.5 to 1.7.2) it show "java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out:
no further information: (server name here)/141.101.114.20:25565" any idea what the numbers mean and
why it only showed on that one version and not the rest?
anyone know what "java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information:" means?

Pretty sure that means that the server is offline. Or your router had trouble connecting to the server.
