Can i have the world save? I am incredibly lazy to make that xD
Well, I've never uploaded a save before, and I don't really know how. More importantly, unlike many structures, this one can't be exported as a schematic, because its specific to a "3 chunk configuration" which couldn't just be placed in another world. You'd have to find your own slime chunks.
I wonder if anyone could post a rough collection rate for a single chunk? Most people who play on SMP servers will be unable to use the site and will rely on the F3 method, which means it's hard to find 2 or more chunks together. I'd like to know if I go with a single chunk, how much I'm likely to get.
Not really, its variable. A single chunk SHOULD be more than enough for a normal person. When I made my spawner, I had about 500 slimeballs, and I now have 1 entire double chest, plus 1 extra stack, so more than 3500. I'd say I spent . . . no less than 15 hours, and no more than 30, farming my triple chunk farm, to get 3000. If we average that to about 22 hours for 3000, then down to 1 chunk, 22 hours netting around 1000 . . . 45 slimeballs an hour? Its not a TON, but its more than most people could ever need in a few hours. I can't imagine any contraption taking more than 200 sticky pistons.
A chunk is a 16x16 square in the world; Its how the game keeps track of data. Every section of the world is a 16 long, 16 wide, 128 tall (bedrock to skybox) rectangle. It can be almost impossible to see where a chunk begins and ends. Each chunk has about a 1/10 chance of being able to spawn slimes. The easiest way to find out where a chunk begins is to look at F3 at your coordinates. Since they start at Z:0 and X:0, you can just multiply by 15 . . . chunk 1 would be 0-15, 0-15. Then 16, 32, 48 in both directions, but keep in mind, its a grid, so there are lots of them.
An easy way to do it without the help of a slime chunk finder, is to simply quarry all of your minerals from a huge chamber at the appropriate level. The more you mine minerals (which, naturally, you will need for crafting/building) the better your chance of busting into a slime-spawning chunk.

Well, i think it's pretty cool, but if you're using a mod to find slime chunks, why not download Toomanyitems and hack them? i know it's not the same, but it's still a mod, and it's not a way to get slimeballs actually legit. I mean, i never download a mod excepting just if i find it cool and want to mess around, or if i use it in my test world. I'd never use a mod that helps me doing somethiing in my main world. That is not playing vanilla minecraft. I think the mod is good and all of that, but i don't consider this exactly a way for slime farm. It doesn't ahve to do whit characteristics of minecraft, it's a mod that lets you have (practically) infinite slime balls

The mod is merely one way of doing this process. The same thing could be done trial and error, without the mod; this farm is just as functional in a legitimately found spawn chunk as one using the app.
I am very finicky with what outside programs I will allow messing with my save. I will NEVER hack in items under any circumstances; even though using this app helped me find slimeballs faster, I still have over 500 on my own. I have 4 single chunk farms set up that I have found without any outside help, but I didn't bother to babysit them until now.
I only use a handful of programs; cartographer, because I love looking at my world from a birds eye view, MCEdit, for when I move my stuff to a new world (I will import my home and resources into a new world, once the old ones are defunct) and this app.
Ultimately, the mod is an option; I even said in my description that its merely one shortcut that is not necessary. An effective way to do the same would be to make a large underground chasm and block off each chunk with cobblestone walls; then note which ones spawn slimes, and record them.
BTW if you want to upload a file go to your .minecraft folder > saves
Then right click on your save folder and go send to then choose ZIP Archive or whatever it's called.
Then go to multiupload.com or mediafire.com
Upload the ZIP file. Then share the link.
Great farm! I found 3 chunks just like you had and spent the past few hours digging them and setting up the 'farm'. So far just during the building time and maybe about 20min of waiting for spawns I got around 100 slimeballs.

Nice! Gotta love that. 100 slimeballs would cover most people for life!
I almost wish I could make a more efficient grinder, but there is no reason anymore. I have a full double chest full, plus an extra stack for 64 sticky pistons. However, Trunkz and I discovered that slimes don't change direction much/any unless you are distracting them. This means they ultimately end up in corners. You could rig up drowning traps in the corners and a water delivery system to the waiting point pretty easily I think.
If I carve out 3 Chunks are Slimes sure to spawn? I just don't want to mine it all out only to find they wont spawn
Not at all. I selected those three chunks using the program. You need to find eligible chunks FIRST, then build the farm. The odds of a chunk having slimes is only 1/10.
Excellent thread for you sir, one question I have heard water can be used to spawn slimes faster, is this true or unknown ?
Unknown, but I doubt it. There are also rumors that they are found near lava. I myself have 4 natural slime spawns I found on my own, all of them had lava. You know why? Because they were all below layer 16! As they should be! That I am aware, its just a coincidence.
Okies, sorry to sound stupid but how does the program on the link work? The "Get from level.dat" bit... whats all that about?
Level.dat is the file that stores the data for your world. You need to find your Minecraft saves folder, and, using the program's browser, go into the world you are looking for, then click on Level.dat.
Basically:
1. Find Minecraft folder
2. Go into Saves Folder
3. Go into the folder for the world you want to check
4. Click level.dat, NOT level.dat_old
Then you need to pick coordinates to check. This can be a little annoying as well.
How long will you usually have to wait for slimes to spawn? I dug out a 2 chunk by 1 chunk by 2 block high area and i've been waiting in my 25 block away area. I think i might just be extremely impatient. :laugh.gif:

Are you sure they are slime eligible? Also, making more floors will increase the chances of slimes spawning.
Either way, sometimes I've gone 20 or so minutes without slimes, but I had a 1x3 chunk with 3 floors. My spawn rate is somewhat higher than most.
This is what my farm looks like. Any I did make sure they were eligible for slime spawning. Guess ill just have to expand.
Thats perfect. Build more 2 height floors above/below the first one. The ceiling will kill off huge and large slimes, breaking them into mediums. And be patient with them. =)

Bones are the most multi-purpose and useful mob drop in the game. *takes a moment to think that through* Arguably the only contender it has is wool.
Bones can:
- Tame wolves
- Create bonemeal which can:
- Create gray and pink wool dyes
- Instantly grow trees
- Instantly grow wheat
- Grow new tallgrass and flowers, creating red/yellow/orange dye and generating seeds
Thats FIVE uses.
Wool can:
- Be used to decorate
- Make beds
- Make paintings
String can:
- Make fishing rods
- Make bows
- Make dispensers (due to bows)
- Make wool
Gunpowder - 1 use, TNT
Feathers - 1 use, arrows
Arrows - 1 use, shooting things (from bows or dispenser)
Eggs - 1 use, cake
Milk - 1 use, cake
Leather - 1 use, armor
Pork - 1 use, healing
Ink Sacs - 1 use, black dye
I'd say bones pretty much take the cake across the board.
