Am I the only one lagging so bad in 1.7.4? I downgraded to 1.7.2 and I was fine, but when I get back to 1.7.4 I went back to my strip mine and every block I mine gets placed back. Is this happening to anyone else? Thanks
This was happening to me, but only on amplified. Though i did get a new computer today, it could be based off your computer and it's specs. Ya never know, or there's some REALLY big redstone contraption near you.

Well I do have a laptop with usually 5-15 fps but it usually doesn't block lag :l and I can't get a new computer because I just got this one last year and can't afford 500$ for a new computer + money for a monitor just to play minecraft
Same for me, 1.6.4 doesn't lag but when playing 1.7.4 it lags...I've looked through over 10+ informational documents and videos on improving fps in 1.7 or just in general. I've set all my settings to the lowest and allocated 4GB memory(I have 16GB of memory). In 1.7.4, it seems ok but when I do an action such as breaking blocks it lags a bit and just annoys me enough to not play. My computer is average, it can run Diablo 3 but can't run Minecraft lol. I really hope this is just a bug or some sort of issue and can be fixed, I would hate to see my pc getting beat by a game less than 300MB...lol

Speaking of which, I have a laptop with about (I think 250 GB?) but my minecraft says I only have about 450 MB and I'm always lagging because I'm at about 300 MB is there a way to up my MB to make it like 5 of those GB's and not lag as bad? P.s. I'm very bad with computers :L

Its referring to system memory or RAM. RAM is the type of memory used by computer applications. your 250 GB is just Hard disk memory. No matter how big your Hardrive is, if your RAM is small, you're not gonna be able to do much with your PC.
Go to Start. Right click Computer, then click Properties. It will show you your PC's Processing power and available RAM.
yes 1.7.4 has a ton of block lag, and if you stand right up against the block your trying yo remove it will not break, stand too far back and it will not break either. frustrating finding the exact spot to make it break. also the new magnet effect is bad a brick will jump across the room to join Buddie bricks first, even if you right there! the old version the block would go into your pack. :"( I hope they fix these bugs and they still have not address the long time play bug! I have to restart my game every couple of hours of play due to horizon glitch line running threw my screen! please MoJang fix this? please?

Before 1.7.4, I could play on far render distance. But now, I have to play on a render distance of eight chunks. I don't know what happened, but I really hope they fix it.

You should really read these books if you're a fan of, well, reading.
Many people have been experiencing lag with 1.7.4. Thankfully I am not one of them. I would look at the change log from 1.7.4 to see what is causing the problem. Some people are saying that Update 1.7.4 has broken their game!
I just got my new computer. It's not the most powerful with graphics (intel iris 5100) and only has a dual-core processor, but I never have lag unless I'm generating new chunks. I maxed it with 16gb ram (to be safe, it's non-upgradeable), but haven't gotten around to allocating more :P. It's worked great so far.
My PC is nothing special (Core2Duo, Radeon HD 7750, 6GB RAM) but it can run minecraft at 80-100 fps for the most part. That was before 1.7.4. Now player movement is still alright but there is far more block lag and entity glitching, riding horses is impossible due to the massive lag it produces for no apparent reason. I wish Mojang would not be like it has always been and maybe consider for once how all the stupid stuff they add affects the game performance. MC ran best at 1.2.5. and it has been downhill since then, I wonder if 2.0 will give me 4 FPS...
(Note that I am talking about MP experience with a vanilla server since i don't even play SP)
i'm having the same problem. but, i never lag as bad i suggest getting a better computer or laptop or download "advanced system care 7"
or wait until the the new ver. or forge & optifine comes in.

Doing news on Scott Cawthon's Shenanigans. one update at a time.
My computer is above average, I can run Minecraft with fancy graphics and a render distance of 10 with 60FPS. That's the FPS I've had for a while though I keep getting lag spikes where I dip down to 30 FPS and then it shoots up to 60 again. I have the same problem in 1.6.2 though, I haven't had any issues with 1.7.4 particularly.
I had to downgrade to 1.2.4 for a map I was playing and my mind was blown when I saw I was getting 120+ FPS with maximum settings. The last couple updates are slowly dwindling down my FPS.

Let me know if my posts are helpful or if you like them. That's what I'm here for.
I am currently lurking more than I am posting. I haven't gone anywhere.
I've been doing a bit of exploring and I notice when I'm traveling by horse it gets a tad laggy but I figure it's the terrain generation. Still it'd be nice if they optimized things a bit more.
For me, 1.7.x has big lag spikes when generating new chunks, and spams the console with "clientside chunk ticking took ---ms" warnings, and this weird problem where it has "microstutter" (FPS freezes for a split second repeating every second or so), until I pause the game for several minutes, then it runs smooth with double the FPS (and no, this isn't chunk update related, I can teleport to a new area and side from initial chunk loading there is no lag). but otherwise runs pretty well. Note also that while Optifine fixes/reduces chunk generation lag, it does nothing at all to the weird "microstutter" problem (at least it usually goes away when I pause the game as described above).
Also, chunk generation is really slow in 1.7.x and later; I can often actually outfly chunk generation/loading in Creative, and no, I don't mean the infamous chunk rendering problem (which also happens a lot, much more often than 1.6.x, which itself is actually much better than 1.5.x) - when this happens, I can see the sides of chunks (no x-ray effect) and I turn black as if there isn't any light, and dropping down causes me to jitter and slowly fall (basically, what happens in a chunk error). This only happens in 1.6.x and earlier with my mods, which is understandable (maybe that's why they nerfed the number of caves, in an attempt to cover up this problem, since caves do significantly increase chunk generation time, no problems at all if I remove caves, even with 3x the terrain to generate).

It says I have 3.57 GB usable under RAM (I have windows 8) so if I use about 1 gb, will it bring my fps up?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
