I had finally found a dessert village and built a house nearby (Survival mode)
After several days all the villagers have disappeared!
Does anyone have any ideas or encountered this problem?
Have you spent a lot of time in those several days at or around your house? Gone mining or caving in the close-by area? Passed over sleeping in a bed while mining or whatnot?
If so, those chunks would stay loaded while you were not far away (or underground), and it's very possible that they were all murdered by zombies. Yeah, that happened to me awhile back when I wasn't careful and didn't know any better.
If the above scenario isn't the case, we'd probably need more specific information to hazard a guess as to what's happened to them.
I have been away for a few day exploring and probably moved several chunks away.
Will have to try and find another village.
Also there were quite a lot of zombies around whilst I was building my farm So murder is a distinct possibily.
Thanks for the reply
The AI of the villagers, believe it or not is not very "advanced". Many times i had to go seek them some blocks away from the village or in cracks, caves and crevices where they fall and they cant go back up.
If there are lighting glitches or there just plain wasn't enough light to start with, zombies also frequently spawn ~in~ the houses and murder them from there. This has killed off my villages several times.

I noticed this too in some villages. Ended up watching a villager to see what happens. They open the door when there is a zombie just outside and continue to walk into the zombie until they die or turn into one. So their AI isn't all that good.

I agree most like it was villages.
But if they have tendencies to fall in the well.
When you do find another village, wait until day, spam torches everywhere, (including inside any large houses), and try to trap at least two in a fortified bunker, so not all of them will die.
Try not to hit any zombies anywhere near the village, actually. It causes more to spawn...and some may spawn inside the houses, even with enough light. Annoying.
I'm starting to think that the villagers don't have an "AI", but an "AS" instead (Artificial Stupidity).
Yeah, they aren't the brightest lamp in the box....They fall con cliffs, goes down to caves/dark spots, they get hit by cactus, lava or any other(s) damage source(s).
When they updated the mobs AI, i tought they would include the villagers which and i think they did but not much.
@1 ~ If your computer isn't too fast, chunks can not quite good saved and All mobs wouldn't get saved. @2 ~ Too Many Items Cacti
@3 ~ In some versions/snapshots of Minecraft villagers can despawn.
@4 ~ End of idea
What ? in which versions/snapshot do they respawn... i meant that must be "old" or too "new"
I believe there is a glitch, at least in some. I lost all the villagers (playing in easy survival mode....no mobs). Went around exploring and came back and they were gone. Removed all cactus, built a fence around the compound; cured two villagers, put them in separate houses and a block in front of the door. I saw them for a while as I worked around the town, reshaping the village. After a while, both villagers were gone from inside the house, yet no way to get out and no mobs (the only time I had mobs was when I changed the difficulty to put mobs in it to get zombie villager and cure them (the two), then put it back into easy mode. So unless there is a glitch, there is no other explanataion.
Villagers do not despawn, period. It's written into the code itself. There were several bugs that caused them to disappear, but those have long since been fixed even in the 1.9 snapshots. There are glitches that result in villager deaths or escaping into the wild, but they don't just randomly get deleted because it's their time to go.
Disagree DuhDerp. I have since had the same problem with two other players and have had the same thing happen to them in their computer under the same circumstances. They do disppear without being killed. I am glad it was not only me (that is why I enlisted the help of two other players and had them reproduce the same thing and had the same effect). Both should be placing their findings in bug tracker.

I do not know the version; just the regular that you obtain when upgrading via the store to the windows 10 edition beta. I have done nothing to it. I do have two villagers right now that I converted from zombies in the village; which is protected on all sides by plenty of lights, fences and only one entrance in and one entrance out. When I return to the game (I am in survival regular, not easy). I assume when I return they will be there; howver, when I switch to easy mode and play a bit and quit, upon my return they should all have disappeared. It is not a modded version, just the plain vanilla and I would suppose it is the latest version; have not seen where to upgrade.
I will gladly invite a player to check it out. As long as I'm playing in regular mode and am around they are there. It is when I quit the game and change to easy (no mobs) and return, that they are gone.
I am now able to reproduce each time the glitch. It occurs, in my case, when switching between modes in survival. All of the time, once I change a mode from easy (no monsters), to normal or hard and then back; villagers are gone. The games sees them as hostile mobs; yet sheep and animals stay. I have locked them in a room, changed modes, played a while, then switched modes again and not there. Hope they fix the glitch, as it makes it not fun to work so hard in a village and loose them, even after they produced off-springs.
