Is amplified a completely separate world type or can you get Amplified biomes in a existing world? This is my first view of 1.7.2 from an existing world.
They tweaked the normal world generation and there's more height variation now, plus there can be Savannah M and Plateau M biomes that can go well over y-200.

I enjoy it a lot. It's the kind of terrain I was looking to find, with massive, cloud breaking mountain tops, arches and overhangs. The only problem I have with it is that EVERYWHERE is like this. Much as I like it, there are times when I want some "normal" terrain.
I haven't noticed any significant lag and when I do it's just as likely to happen on normal terrain settings.
I just started a world with default terrain and stumbled upon a mushroom biome so I think I'm going to try it on AMPLIFIED to see how it looks.
You need to watch your back more in aplified. Lots of overhangs means lots more dark places above ground during the day. Things will come for you if you aren't careful.

For all the people complaining about lags in amplified worlds: When you change the world type to amplified before creating the world, it does warn you that you need to have a beefy computer to run it well.
So I made an amplified world, and I'm just getting wood, and poking around the area, when I place a torch to see. Well, it was sand. The next thing I know, the floor is falling out from under me, and the mobs on the area(creepers, skellys, and zombies) are falling with me. I get shot by a skelly right at a creeper who blows up mid air, and sends me flying into a ravine to my death.
