In a single life I have had fifteen diamonds, and lost all of them to lava. I was playing on hardcore with my friend and we went down into our first ravine... My friend watched me burn in lava, trying to save me, but alas.. I didn't rage out-loud, but I might have been a bit angry inside. I knew I could get them again though.
While playing the game I just fell in a ravine and just explored the entire place (there were more ravines and caves too) and I have had about 1 3/4 stacks of diamonds (Solved=>64+(16x3)=>112 diamonds) in my life. I never lost them or even died once I was playing hardcore too
Likely because I am still new to Minecraft (Only been playing a month) and also because my laptop is old and crappy, I haven't lost any diamonds to falling in lava.
I can't mine with mobs around, they make my PC crawl. So I always mine on Peaceful. In addition, because I have to use Tiny draw distance, I am SUPER-HYPER-careful when walking around underground, with my left pinky always near the "Shift" button to slow myself down and stop a fall into lava. As such, I've yet to lose any diamonds I was holding into Lava. I have lost more than a few ore blocks of several kinds to having a lava block directly underneath them that sizzles the ore the moment I finish mining it though.
Worst I ever lost was on the demo world falling into a ravine and going splat, losing all my freshly made iron armor, most of my food and a bunch of tools and other resources.
Ultimately though, it's a game, so I don't get too upset.
No idea; the last time I returned from a caving expedition I made 47 blocks of diamond and last died a couple weeks and several more expeditions ago due to an angry Enderman knocking me down a ravine (I use a backpack mod so I can play for many days without having to return; that said, I have returned with a stack or two of diamonds when I just played vanilla, using a Fortune III pick).
Sounds like a lot but you should see how much I get of other stuff; hundreds of blocks each of iron (got over 50 stacks of iron ore in one trip before, actually the last trip), redstone, coal, and lapis, and around 1.5x more gold blocks than diamond blocks. In the world I'm playing as my main world right now, I have mined over 17,000 iron ore and around 700 diamond ore, and placed 29,000 torches, in only about 2.2 days of playing (about 3 weeks in real time; I separate my main save from others so the stats don't get messed up).
Of course, there was the time I died in lava with over 1,000 iron and around 100 diamonds, no chance of any of it surviving... (I was playing vanilla but instead of returning when my inventory was full I just smelted/made blocks to make more space, later along with an Ender Chest; the worst part wasn't losing what I mined but the tools and weapons I had and the time needed to get enough XP (only a dungeon as a mob farm) to enchant new ones, albeit with enchanted books; I now keep a spare set just in case)
And you? How many? Did you rage by loosing diamonds?
Baseball, then Minecraft.
Minecraft [Alpha] 1.7.3 had blocks that you can use to build with.
Minecraft now has blocks that you can use to build with.
Nothing has changed in my opinion." That is all.
I didn't lose any diamonds. O_o. Lucky me.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
