The best one I've got currently is Sharpness IV, Looting III and Knockback II, and if I were to make a "perfect" sword it would have Sharpness V instead of IV. I don't like it when Fire Aspect overrides the Looting aspect, and with Sharpness IV/V you really only need two hits to kill a mob anyways, so why bother with the fire
All pretty good. I just wish they were in my current world! (P.S. I frequently enchant Gold Swords with 30 once I have a pigmen farm going for hopes of Looting, which means better drops from EXP farms)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I have no idea what to put here, nor do I have any idea what to make my profile pic. Ideas welcome, I suppose. Now satisfy my like *****ing hogging self and give me a little rep, please and thank you?
I dissagree knockback is the worst enchant on your sword
Knockback is handy when fighting a mass of mobs at one time and useful in the nether when you accidentally strike a zombie pigman. But most of the time it's a pain in the ass with 1 or 2 mobs as you have to either chase them or wait for them to come back to get enough strikes to kill them.

Knockback is good against creepers too. (I kill skeletons with a bow)
Lol, you're too obvious. There's no Sharpness 5 from enchantment from direct enchantment. You will need to combine two swords with Sharpness 4. But having a Sharpness 4, Unb 3, fa 2, kb 2, loot 3 and actually combining the two will take too much exp.
Here's the real deciding point for me. When I get a sword I want one for around the base. After a few weeks in a new world I rarely find myself in dangerous situations.. The main thing I want to do is to protect my base from creepers so - sharpness IV (or V). knock back is depended on the shape and size of where you live. If you're worried a creeper will sneak up on you then knock back II would be idea for you. But I do think it gets annoying when your sword is so strong it could take a mob out quickly but first they have to walk back to you from the knock back. And if it's a Skelton then it's even worse. However when it comes to looting honestly it just gets annoying if it's not a starter sword. If I'm out and about building, my inventory is full... And looting or not ill throw away a few bits of bones just to clear my inventory. considering most people make mob farms - there won't be a shortage. that being said some people would rather kill the mobs In their farm with looting. Fire aspect is a little better in my mind because it helps to augment cow farms and I do like cooked steak. So TLDR:
Sharpness 4 or 5
unbreaking 3
fire aspect 2
And if I feel like it some times looting 3
knock back gets annoying with two hit sword
And I forgot to add mending that's an obvious one.
Well this was supposed to be a quote to the comment above mine... But I'm still reasonably new at posting on the forums so my mistake....
"Not if you use books. I'm not 100% on this because I haven't done any testing but it seems likely that you could combine sharpeness 4 ub 3 book with the rest of the sword."
It should be noted that the last time this thread was necroed the posts were wiped (posts 20-39; why would they delete half the posts in a thread, even if it was necroed, unless they are totally off-topic? This includes a post I made, which resulted in this thread appearing in my notifications).
Also, if you are enchanting something on the table you can't get Sharpness V unless it is a gold sword and even then it is extremely rare; from reading the posts it sounds like they want to know what enchants you've gotten from the table (my deleted post was in reply to a claim that it was impossible to get Smite V on a sword off the table, when you do have a very small chance).
As for myself, I don't directly enchant swords and instead use books to enchant them with my ideal enchantments; Sharpness V, Knockback II, Unbreaking III; and name it "Monster Slayer" (the one in my first world has killed around 120,000 mobs so far so it is a fitting name). I did directly enchant some swords very early on in my first world and may still have a sword with Smite IV and some other enchantments lying around somewhere; more memorable was the first time I enchanted a diamond pickaxe, which got Efficiency IV, Fortune III, Unbreaking III.
Whats your best diamond sword enchant?
Mine was Fire Aspect 2, Smite 4 Knockback 2
So whats yours?
Sorry slight mishap when writing this, reason for edit
Fire Aspect II
Smite V
Knockback II
Looting III
Awesome,eh?
Best enchanted sword ever!
Sharp 4 Loot 3 Fire 2
Sharp 4 Loot 3 (nothing else)
Sharp 4 Loot 3 Knock 2
Sharp 4 Loot 3 Fire 2 Knock 2
All pretty good. I just wish they were in my current world! (P.S. I frequently enchant Gold Swords with 30 once I have a pigmen farm going for hopes of Looting, which means better drops from EXP farms)
*****ing hogging self and give me a little rep, please and thank you?Looting 3
knockback 2
sharpness 4
Sharpness 1
Fire Aspect 1
Knockback 1
Unbreaking 1
Not the best enchants ever, but its the fact I got so many with only 5 exp. that makes it awesome.
I dissagree knockback is the worst enchant on your sword
Baseball, then Minecraft.

Same as the guy above but with a better name

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
My best was a single Sharpness III enchant. Still don't know how I haven't got past that.
