Well I would prefer to live in an extreme hills biome or a grassy plains biome.

I have lived in just about all the biomes except for a Jungle biome. I just cannot seem to convince myself to base there. Regrdless, My preference is usually Plains because they are typically between two or more biomes that are close by. I especially like the ones that are plains located next to a desert, tundra, and a forest because those grant me all the sand I would need plus all the different kinds of wood I like to use when building my home. I don't really enjoy the mountain biome mainly because I find it almost useless. Sure you can look down on your enemies but it only places you further from diamonds and obsidian. However, Each biomes has its pros and cons I'm sure of it; however, I believe the plains serve my interests the best. (:

I'm currently situated in an extreme hills biome adjacent to a coniferous forest. I like building on mountains with oak planks and spruce logs. However, I'm on large biomes, and so aside from the small (read: stupendously enourmous) inland sea to the north, I am yet to find another biome.
I just started another world for the heck of it. I'm living in a plains biome right now and have a house built. My next project is to setup fields and a barn with a paddock and stuff. Best part is the place is near where I spawned so it's an easy walk should disaster happen.
Just got into my first SMP server. I was wandering through a forest biome with the goal of finding a nice spot about 1500 blocks out from spawn. And then: ...hey...what's that? Looks like a...dungeon? *gets closer* Yep. Dungeon. In fact, Skelly dungeon! Three blocks down from the surface! Sweet, this means grinder!
Been a long time since I've built in a forest. But I think I just found home.
I live near a forest and plains on a beach with my friend. Usually though we live in the Nether. I like the beach because it looks nice, and the Nether is epic because it Blazes and Nether Quartz (mah two favourite things in Minecraft).

Sadly, these kinds of biomes won't exist any more. Plains will never be right next to a desert anymore, or a Taiga... due to 1.7.

Some biome transitions will become extremely rare, but those particular two still happen reasonably often. Plains are mild climate, taiga is cold, and desert is hot. Adjacent biomes (cold-mild and mild-hot) can be adjacent climates, so those two transitions are not even directly suppressed. They will be somewhat less common, since biomes tend to cluster by climate but they still happen fairly often. I have both within 500 blocks of the spawn of my first 1.7 world. Taiga-desert *is* a suppressed transition, and will be extremely rare, but looking at Amidst suppressed transitions still happen on rare occasions.

Still a newbie, so still exploring, but my primary "base of operations" is a plains villiage I have completely fortified and stocked with every farmable plant and every domesticatable animal save pigs (still working on dragging some pigs back home) It's right on the edge of a snowy taiga biome as well, and the village wall I put up also encircles a small corner of this biome.
I also just put the finished the initial build on my "jungle treehouse" retreat, a two-story junglewood house I plunked on top of a massive 4-bole jungle tree on the peak of a jungle mountain. This is right nearby the plains and also borders the taiga area. It has amazing views once I turn on a longer draw distance. I built it primarily as a place to base out of when collecting large volumes of wood. The advantage to being up in the top of a tree is that you are pretty much immune to any mobs when up there. As long as your house is well lit nothing will spawn close enough to you to cause problems. Jungle vines make for an easy route up to the top of a tree, and as long as you start with lots of lumber and a crafting table, you can build one out in just an hour or so.
Once I've filled in more areas of my map I'll probably make more long range bases, but for now I'm looking into exploring a local crevasse I found during my foot travel around the plains. Hoping to find an abandoned mine and some other goodies. Also need to tame at least one of the local horses to make travel easier.
I use Biomes O' Plenty and I've been playing in my world for quite some time and I've lived in many of the biomes but my favorite would have have to be the Red Wood Forest, the Cherry Grove, I had an interesting idea for a building in a marshland and it looked pretty cool. I also tried living in both a dead forest and a volcano on two different occasions but I have a pretty bad computer and it was giving me too much lag. But I could go on for about an hour on all the different biomes I've lived in but these are just some of my favorites.
Edge of the plains next to a small forest. Looking toward the forest, a jungle on my right, taiga on my left, back and right is desert, and a huge plains behind me. Also like diamonds right below spawn.
Except my home is a massive platform in the sky above the ground.
