I messed around in creative, tryna find something to do in my survival world. I had a whole bunch o' redstone, so I tried making something automatic. (Or, at least semi-automatic.) I didn't need more food, but I have a tendency to eat nothing but cookies(I know it's crap food, but it's in great quantity), but Cocoa bean farm was already automatic, but the wheat farm wasn't. So, I wanted to see if anyone thinks it is a good idea to implement my invention in my survival world?
That type of wheat farm is seen everywhere. It is a good disign but I have never seen one that automactically plants the seeds. I belive that you can plant seeds using dispensers right next to the tiled soil. If you like it, it is great to not have to harvest that wheat but you still have to plant the seeds. Do whatever you think will be interesting to you and keep you playing minecraft.
Awesome design, but one problem, you will get very little wheat from this design. So make it bigger! I have one on a multiplayer world and it gets me about a stack of wheat per harvest.
I have never understood the point. You still have to replant by hand, so your contraption is saving you roughly zero seconds. But people are so proud of these!

If you create a larger version, it saves tons of time.

You might have to replant by hands with some designs, but it is saving you time from harvesting it. Not completely useless, eh? Not really proud of it, but hey, it's effencient

"Maybe it is not about the efficieny. Maybe it is just about the fun of building such a device and search the materials for it, about the challenge to make as much processes as possible automatic. And the proudness if you have accomplished it and have given it a nice design and a nice place in your base, just like the proudness if your grand hall is finally ready. "

Because people who don't know how redstone work will think your awesome. It's now really completely "useful" I agree but it's still pretty cool.
Yeah, I think it would take up less room if I stacked it instead of making it wider.
It could still be just as effencient with the auto planters I'm working on.
Tip: Dispensers can be loaded with bone meal. So fully automatic is possible, a hopper or any pit that collects bonemeal, dropper pipe/water tunneling to transport items, connection to dispensers. Then make something like redstone auto output with 7-step recorder - a redstone clock which after each move counts and after each 7th resets(again and again), connect grading output to bone meal dispensers and resetting output to piston which holds liquid. Exact result:
Dispensers apply bonemeal on your seeds 7 times, due to 7 bone meals it fully grows.
Pistons unleash water that washes grown wheat away.
Your wheat is waiting at collection hopper large amounts(stacks maybe?)

Great idea! I'm gonna figure out how to sneak the dispensers on the middle rows though.

Baseball, then Minecraft.

Ok, I'm going to try and make it auto plant. It's pretty easy, so why not?

Well said. Very well said.
