- List up to date as of February 1, now with 1.1 items and current snapshots!
Ever since The Collector and 2 Double Chests I have been very driven to accomplish some semblance of this goal. Filling a double chest with every item in the game is a daunting task, but in some ways, is not quite as bad as many imagine. Resource aquisition is my favorite aspect of Minecraft, and I feel I cannot build until I have a sufficient quantity of a certain item. There has been some demand for my to make my own thread on this subject for a little while, and I guess its not such a bad idea. I want to give credit to Arbitrax and Eleutherius for creating their original threads; I can never claim this was originally my idea.
The biggest difference between my final goal, and that of the makers of these inspirational threads is that I have never had any hope to truly achieve "a double chest of EVERYTHING". Maybe I'm a pessimist; certain items just sound SO unrealistic, I don't want to set my sights too high. In some ways, certain items don't seem like they warrant having. For instance, why make a double chest full of wooden shovels? I can make it at any time, it only takes 27 wood.
Some advanced items also seem like a waste of time. Using 3456 (the amount held within a double chest) of a resource is a very distinct possibility. Using 3456 jukeboxes, on the other hand . . . seems out of the question.
That being said . . . I'm not willing to entirely ignore these items, but in the name of not burning myself out, I have made a "moderate" list which will still be sufficiently difficult to achieve, without being completely out of the question. I will include excluded items in a separate list, as a bonus, but I will not feel driven to complete them until I finish.
I invite anyone to join me in this endeavor. There is no shame in trying, and then giving up. I myself have no intention of doing so.
I've gone on long enough. Here is my list and current completion, as well as a list of currently excluded items!

10 green/golden records already? How many dungeons did you find!?
Maybe thats why people always say records will be hard to find . . .
Don't people know that if a skeleton's errant arrow delivers the final blow to a creeper, the creeper will drop a record? I got 13 records last night doing that.
I've been wanting to try this challenge since I saw the original Collector thread. I always mine like hell before I build anything. I think I'm going to give it a go.

Go for it! And by all means, modify it and make it easier if you need. I'd rather people made it easier than make it too hard and give up.
Heck, I think "1 stack of every item" is a hard enough challenge, with diamond blocks/pumpkins/cocoa beans in play. It took me months to get a stack of each.
I wish you luck! May the Minecraft Gods be with you! I gotta say though, Golden Apples and Lapis Lazuli sound very time consuming. I mean just all the branch mining. Diamond too to an extent.
EDIT: Holdon, sorry, I mean lapis lazuli blocks, not pieces. :biggrin.gif:
Contrary to you, I actually have 1&1/2 double chests of sandstone and almost a double of regular sand. Strange huh? I passively do this challenge so I don't set out to do it as my main quest, I just randomly collect bits and bobs from around my world. An easy way to get stacks of sand is to find the bottom block, hold a torch and mine away at it and as soon as it pops, place the torch and the sand falls down on it converting to block form.
Also, using a mob trap to farm records is far more efficient and less painful than running around at night.
Yeah, considered building one. If the remaining . . . 12 or so records are all dropped the same way, I probably will. I like running around though, it helps me gather other items I need, like leather and wool.
if you would spent all that time on something else like punching a tree down irl would give you more fame.
i don't think you cheat achieving your goal, but some people will think you do when you show vids or pics of filled chests...
do you enjoy gathering lets say stone for hours? that must be meditative or incredibly boring..
no hate! :smile.gif: just wondering!
good luck holding on!
True, it might give me more fame, but I'm doing this for fun, not fame. It just became apparent that some people were interested!
I don't tend to get bored of collecting items persay, though certain ones do suck a bit. For instance . . . I finished flint yesterday. That sucked. Certain items that take a LOT more gathering to successfully make (snow blocks and sandstone, specifically) really wear on me because they are a hassle to collect the 4x amounts you need.
This is an interesting challenge. Assuming you build a massive mob grinder + automated renewable resource farm, you can collect a large number of the items while AFK...
But how many redstone will you need to complete your quest? How many logs? How much iron?
I'm not certain, but I wonder if the guy who's trying to reach the Far Lands actually has a more attainable goal.
I may join you on this quest later, with a twist. Instead of trying to get 3456 of most items, I will try to get one of EVERY item that can be gotten. I've been playing for months, and I've never seen a cocoa bean, diamond block, slimeball, or record. This quest would change that.

Not true for sandstone. If you find a desert or a large beach, just dig about 3 to 4 blocks down and you will find that there is always sandstone blocks beneath 3-4 deep sand blocks. Then just use a mining pick on them.

Unfortunately, I build Kiershar's mob trap QUITE a while ago, and its output has just never been efficient. Sometimes its so slow I could manually hunt enemies faster. I parked myself in it 10 minutes ago and I only have 2 feathers. Yet months ago, it delivered at a reasonable pace. Le SAD. I have dungeon spawners rigged for all the hostile mob drops except for the elusive gunpowder, which I still need a LOT of. I may consider building a new trap, but not now.
Its not that much redstone, and I have TONS of the stuff. Lots of logs. Lots of iron. Iron will be a dangerously high investment.
I see you did make thread for yourself :tongue.gif:. If you want to make a good mob trap/Record farmer check out Kiershar's.....
Mob Trap....
Record Farming...
Same as above. Kiershar's trap didn't work well for me. I have a record farm half-built, but I don't even know if I need it. I have over 20 of each record now, its not that much of a hassle.
I think I'm about 1/2 of the sandstone chest (I need to turn my sand into sandstone), and I have completed sand and glass. Next will probably be the mob farm.
Stupid sandstone . . . I spent 2 hours clearing out an entire beach of sand and sandstone and came home with only 10 stacks. God thats annoying.

I know. I did this last night. Its still massively time consuming, and you end up with way more sand than sandstone. Which you turn into more sandstone, but as you can see above, I didn't make a lot of progress.
You mentioned Eleutherius.
He's a greifer, no matter what his forum rep is.
I mentioned him because he started one of the threads that helped fuel my drive to complete this. Whether he is a griefer or not is of no concern to that simple fact, and you have contributed nothing valuable to this thread but hatemongering.
Heh, hope thats not true. I'm going to go check out Etho's trap now, and see if its worth my time. I need something with a high enough output to provide 20k gunpowder within a few days of being AFK. I don't even have 3k yet, and my grinder provides maybe 50 per hour, on a good day.

Hmm... weird. I have a double chest half full of gunpowder. Only afk'd about 10 hours

Same as above. Kiershar's trap didn't work well for me. I have a record farm half-built, but I don't even know if I need it. I have over 20 of each record now, its not that much of a hassle.
I mentioned him because he started one of the threads that helped fuel my drive to complete this. Whether he is a griefer or not is of no concern to that simple fact, and you have contributed nothing valuable to this thread but hatemongering.
Etho's trap gets clogged so much for me...
