I need help zombie pigman-proofing my tracks! I play on vanilla SMP, and we have two long tracks in the Nether- one is about 600 blocks, the other 1100. They are both fully covered, but there's still the issue of zombie pigmen spawning on the tracks. The addition of having to get out of a minecart before you can destroy it has led to me now having to either chase a minecart down for 50 blocks, or giving a pigman a free ride and having to come back for the cart later, and I feel it's time to fix it.
Covering the track with upside-down half slabs isn't a problem for me, but I've found zero solutions on what to do about slopes. Going up is fine with a half slab and a leaf block or something on top of that, but I can't go past them coming back down. Here are my ideas so far:
-detector rails on either side of slope powering pistons to push any pigmen into a trench
-detector rails on either side of slope connected to a t flip-flop, either powering gates or unpowering pistons stacked 2-high so I can pass through
Unfortunately, these are all fairly resource intensive, using 3-5 redstone per sloped block, plus wood and iron. I'd estimate that there are about 100 sloped blocks total. I was just wondering if there's some simpler way I'm missing? I've scoured the internet and the few people who have discussed this issue haven't offered any insight on slopes Thank you!
If you make the tunnel where the track is 3 wide instead of 1, the pigmen won't walk onto the track. As of 1.5 no mobs will walk onto rails unless pursuing the player.

The problem is that they're spawning on the tracks. (Is that even possible?)

This is the best signature you've ever seen. Trust me.

They may still spawn there, but they will walk off the first time they move and won't walk back on. It would be less likely for them to be on the track when a minecart comes through.

I have never seen a Pigman on the tracks yet.
Stay fluffy~
