I don't play SMP because of all the rules, the territory things (no freedom), no amidst, toxic 7 y/o (I mean seriously once I went on a server and these two kids were pvping and throwing pathetic and stupid insults at each other.. what has the community come to.. seriously..), lag (I've got trash internet), and the same reason as you.

That is just one of the things you have to deal with. You just get used to it. I have seen multiple servers I have played on shut down. You just have to move on and find another.

How come you guys are not afraid that one day server will simply shutdown and you will lose your house, your findings and everything?
I'd love to play server survival and meet other players while exploring and such but I am afraid of ^^.
Cost of doing business. If you want to play on a machine you do not control, the risk is intrinsic.
[Even if you own a server (ie. run out of your home on equipment you own), various events could still cause loses; similar to what an untimely power failure can do to a singleplayer world if nothing else.]
Given the list of hazards provided by 1ite1 [most of which can be mitigated by careful choice of servers, although that can take some time and several tries], potential server shut-down is usually low on the list of concerns. [That particular worry can also be (to some extent) mitigated by choosing servers run by folks with a good track record.]

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
