I recently built a lion statue in one of my single player worlds. Here are some pictures of it from a few different angles:
Now, I think overall I'm okay with it, but there's still something bugging me. It is meant to be a fairly long-bodied lion crouched in a defensive posture, but its limbs still strike me as looking a tad awkward. I don't know if that's just me being critical though. I'd like to ask for your feedback - do you think I should continue tweaking it and reshaping its limbs, or do you reckon it's okay as it is?
Edit: Here's the save file (this is the save file of the older lion, not the new one):
Legitimate advice thread or thinly veiled bragging thread? Well, even if it's the latter, you deserve it. I think it's awesome and ferocious.
Legitimate advice thread. :tongue.gif: You know that feeling you get when you're mostly happy with something you've built, but there's just something not quite right about it? That's how I feel about this right now. Maybe I'm just being nitpicky, but...yeah.
All righty...looks like I'll be leaving it as it is. Thanks guys.

It looks great. Is it completely wool blocks, or is it hollow?
It's mostly made of sandstone, obsidian and glowstone, with a bit of wool and some iron blocks (and lit netherrack for the mouth and eyes) and is hollow in the head, mane and body (so I guess it could probably be used as a house).
Yup, the darkness of the mane's intentional. It's based on the Barbary (North African) subspecies of lion - they often had rather long bodies and big, black manes (usually with a golden halo around the face). Sadly they're now extinct in the wild. :sad.gif:
First off, epic awesome job.
Second, was this all legit?!
Third, need to bring the front legs up to the shoulder area more. Looks like they stop about mid chest. Front paws could be moved closer together, but they're ok as is, too. I've always been partial to the lighter maned lions, but yours is true to the genetic line you're basing it off of.
Again, great job. :smile.gif:
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
If you think the title and OP tells you everything you want to know about a thread, don't reply. If you want to actually read the thread and post an intelligent reply, you're welcome to it.
do you mind if you upload the save plz???
'd love to have a good look at it
I'll upload it a little later, once I've stopped being AR about it. :tongue.gif: Lol.

Cheers. :smile.gif: I'm afraid I can't say it's entirely legitimate, because I duplicated the sandstone and obsidian I had in my inventory - I just didn't have the patience to mine that much of it! The blocks themselves were placed in the traditional way though (ie. without using a program like McEdit).
Also, thanks so much for your advice. I reckon you're right about the legs appearing as though they stop mid-chest - the tops of the forelegs are being obscured by the mane, so perhaps paring back the mane a bit to show more of the upper forelegs would help to make it look better?

I decided to go ahead and upload the save file zip anyway.
I haven't gotten around to making changes, though I still want to make some - it's kind of messy in some parts and I think the lion's forelegs need improving.
(By the way, there are a few other things in that world too. If you happen to encounter a little farm, make sure to be wary of the local dragon...)

There are still a few descendants in captivity though - here's a pic of a lion with Barbary characteristics: http://www.hdw-inc.com/lionbarbarysm.jpg

Haha. :tongue.gif: A creeper riding a lion eh? That'd be interesting!

The limbs look fine, it makes it look like it is about to pounce at someone.
I plan on desecrating this thing.
Thanks.
I probably won't make too big a change to the legs at this stage...really just altering the mane a bit around the forelegs.
It was in my last post - I've just put it in the OP as well.
And lol, that'll be quite the fireworks display!
(There should be a wolf on its nose, by the way...:wink.gif: )
