Baked potatoes usually early on, but beef all the way after that. Best food because of the saturation, dont know if any of the recent meats (rabbit, mutton) are as good ...
Mutton is not as good (see below). I don't eat rabbit because my bunny Zoom-zoom would get upset.
Limiting the answer to vanilla MC, it's very time dependent [time since I started the world] and somewhat biome dependent.
First few days of a world, nearly always bread…
Moving to carrots/potatoes (depending on which a zombie drops first) then chicken once I have a good breeding flock… [say week two]
Then on to porkchops/steak as I get pigs & cows
Apples as available throughout…
By MC day #30, I usually stabilize on apples while in base (farming, logging, etc.) just because they are available [I tend to use a lot of oak] and steak for
exploration/projects because it has good hunger/saturation values and stacks to 64 but has no other use (chicken & pork can be traded).
[For the Nether: lack of water generally means I either import food as above or switch to mushroom stew in base (from low efficiency but cheap mushroom farms along tunnel walls etc ) and chicken (from hopper/dispenser set-ups).]

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
First day or two on a new world, cooked mutton and pork from killing whatever sheep and pigs I come across while looking for wood/coal and a place to dig into the ground for my first base. Then bread once I get a simple 9x9 farm set up in my first underground base. I graduate to baked potatoes once I find a village or a zombie drops one, and finally settle on cooked steak once I got a full-fledged base with underground livestock pens and the like. Sometimes cooked fish once I got a guardian grinder set up, but by then I tend to have more steak than I can possibly eat anyways.

Vanilla-wise, I usually eat bread, pumpkin pie, and mutton. I usually play modded, so my main food source (at least right now) are Cheeseburgers (from Pam's Harvestcraft).

I post pretty rarely nowadays. Gosh, I wish this place weren't so... empty...
Apples, and, if I can find a village, potatoes/carrots/bread. If not, mutton/pork/beef. This is until I set up my fish farm - after that, fish and salmon are my main sources for the rest of the game.

I'm gonna buy a cheap bouquet before it dies on the display.
Mutton is not as good (see below). I don't eat rabbit because my bunny Zoom-zoom would get upset.
Cooked Mutton = 6 () hunger and 9.6 saturation (rabbit = 5/6).
Steak & Cooked Porkchop = 8 () hunger and 12.8 saturation.

I also don't eat rabbit because my bunny Hops would be very salty at me (She is known as the evilest bunny around)
I didn't expect to get so many replies! But its cool to know because I thought most people would just say STEAK and PORKCHOPS but boy I was wrong
Don't pretend to be someone you aren't. Be yourself. Even if you try to be someone else ill knows its you. Your a terrible actor.
Bread because wheat farming is easy, then once I get a flame enchanted sword I eat whatever animals are close at hand heh.
If I feel lazy, cooked chicken from a fully automatic farm.
If I feel like breeding and killing, I go for steak since the leather always comes in handy.
Wheat until Mumbo's automatic chicken cooker is running, then chicken forever.
Usually - any meat, if i found village - baked potatoes.

depends on what biome I live in. usually meats, half of the time I don't bother to cook them (but I ALWAYS cook chicken)
sometimes, nullposts must be made.

Gotta love that mod

Because I'm lazy, pumpkin pies and cooked chicken. I've got a dual-chamber chicken farm with an auto-cooker. Of my own design.
Figured it was time for a change.

Cooked chicken ! Luckily this is a never eneding byproduct of my XP farm
Vanilla Survival MC. non-modded, only Optifine and Bdcraft graphics -
I usually kill animals when I am gathering supplies.
Early on I rush whatever meat source I can find (Steak, Mutton, etc)
If there are no animals, I get a wheat farm going.
Once I get settled, I tend to eat more custom foods, such as Cake, Pumpkin Pie, etc.
If there is a village, I make potato farm and eat baked potatoes.
It really depends on where you spawn and your resources around you.
PVP Legend
Baked potatoes and meat are usually the foods i eat. Though I would sometimes go for some fish as well for a period of time.
