So I have a village with nine houses and some have 2 doors. I have three villagers one is a farmer, one is a librarian, and one is a blacksmith. I have made a secure wall around my village and there is lots of lighting. I dont know why they aren't mating. Can someone please help?
Villagers will breed until the number of adult villagers reaches 0.35 times the number of "houses." Any baby villagers will then grow to adulthood but no new babies will be born, bringing the total number of villagers to somewhere about one-third the number of "houses."
From the wiki:
A "house" is defined as a wooden door that has an "inside" and an "outside". The "inside" is the side of the door which has more "roof" than the other. A block counts as being part of the "roof" when it is within 5 blocks of the door (in the two directions the door faces), its topside is exposed to sunlight during the day, and its bottom side is higher than the door's bottom side. Notice that a door is not a "house" without a roof, or with equal amount of roof on both sides. A house is initiated by a nearby villager (up to 16 blocks away horizontally along both axes, and up to 4 blocks vertically), and then either added to an existing or a new village.
Some examples:
(
( is a door)
^that's a house (it has roof on one side, but not the other)
^that's a house (it has 5 roof blocks on one side, and only 4 on the other)
^that is not a house, because both sides have the same number of roof blocks.
"both sides" here means front and back, not left and right. For a super-easy way to increase your village's population, don't bother building new houses, just line doors around the outside of the existing ones. Just right up against the wall, they don't have to go anywhere.

Give them time, they dont mate like animals using wheat. You have to just wait and come back in a few hours. Make sure they are in close proximity to each other.
You actually do need wheat, but not the way you think. They do want wheat farms around in order to grow. We have been playing with moving villagers to other areas to make new villages.

Oh, really? You need wheat farms? That would explain why my own villagers won't breed, since I removed all my wheat farms.
How did you test the farm theory, or did you hear it from another site?

No, he made that up. Villagers don't care about anything but houses.

It takes a long time, sometimes up to like 5 hours. If it didn't the villages would be spammed with babby villagers running all over the place.
