So, I've been wandering around a jungle for 3 minecraft days now, with fish in my hand, looking around for signs of life. I see chickens. Lots of chickens. And sometimes vines grow. And it rains. I know ocelots and parrots are supposed to be shy, but literally, that's the only movement I've seen in this entire jungle, in 3 minecraft days... chickens, vines growing, and rain. No signs of ocelots or parrots. Am I just wasting my time?
Playing in a new-ish world that was originally created in 1.12, Java edition, Survival, Peaceful difficulty.
Many thanks (sorry this has such a griping tone... just wasted an hour at this).
Update: After clearing out an area and going a little ways away, ocelots did spawn. Quite a lot of them, actually, indicating that they did indeed need grass to spawn. The wiki may need updating; it states in about 3 different places (both on the ocelot page and on the spawn page) that they can spawn on grass or leaves. Which I thought was odd, to be honest, since leaves are transparent blocks... but I took the wiki's word for it. Perhaps I should have listened more to my own logic.

Yes, they do. They need grass to spawn though, so you may want to try clearing out a section of it to create a better spawning area.
They do not, see https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-1788
