Hi, I encountered a problem, so i tested it in creative, here it is.
I had 2 platforms 16x16 blocks above on another, but a lot (like 40) blocks apart in y direction.
I added no lights, only sunlight at day.
The bottom platform seemed completely bright, even the F3 screen showed that the light level is about 14 od 13, and YET, there were mob spawns. What am i missing?
for complete ensurance, I am posting a screenshot of my experiment.
Sunlight propagates sideways, but only after it first lands on a block. Once it lands, it can travel in all 6 directions (up, down, north, south, east, and west). Each block it moves will reduce the light level by 1 until light level = 0. At light level 7, hostile mobs will spawn.
If it helps, sunlight is minecraft water that has the added ability to flow upwards. The 3d diamond shape that the sunlight "flow" forms is not quite as big as the 2d diamond that minecraft water will form, however.
