I'm trying to get my villager to jump, preferably without hurting him, but if you press Use with a snowball, it just opens the villager's trading.
(I successfully did it with a Nitwit, but now I need to do it with a brown-coat, because I'm trying to get him into a water elevator to get into a farm)
Just sneak and throw the snowball. An alternative to this is staying at a distance.
Right. Or just stand back a little farther.

Sneaking didn't work, but throwing from a distance did. Thanks!
Just curious... What version of Minecraft are you in?
Snowballs... excellent idea!
I always used a water bucket to make the water push him, but depending on what you have on the ground it can be destructive.
I almost miss the days when you could just push them, then I remember of how many times in past versions someone who TP'd to me pushed me off a ledge.
I just push mine, usually. It's not easy, but I don't have to push them very far to get them onto a rail where I put a minecart under them.
Bucket of water, though, is how I got my first ones down into the dungeon from the surface where I cured the zombie villagers.
It depends on where I want my villagers & how far away.
Usually it's the Snowball trick & I just stand a little further away so that the trade GUI don't show up..
.. if I want villagers to stay put.. or I want to move them away to/from a specific corner etc - I lay down boats & wait until the villager steps into one - then 'row' the boat to where I want them.
Going uphill is a problem - but I just build a wall around the boat & fill with water to raise the boat up - although I believe a piston can do the same thing
