Well, I made a tree farm and have only seen one video about making it like this and it still didn't look/work as mine does so here's my post! I plan on making a video soon going into deeper detail, until then here's some pictures i took.
The middle saplings are just that, trees for saplings. as the side setup doesn't allow many leaves to be spawned, the control trees will grow to the allowed height.
We actually found a zombie spawn ONE Block away from the farm we cleared out.. lucked out on that one, hence the redstone light.
This is the setup, 1x1 with 7 block in height, this allows me to get the most out of a tree before it starts growing past the cuttable limits [branches and that clutter] and cause pain to having to climb up to get
This is where it looks standing on the sapling - 7 blocks from the ground for maximum wood. [heh hehehe]
As you see, torches work perfectly and so does the 1x1 setup.
I don't understand...
Are tou trolling? Those trees should not grow at all :-o
Does this only work on Multiplayer? This is a bug and should be reported.
As long as there is light and enough space above, a tree will grow. My farm grows rows of trees directly next to each other and is just fine (though I get almost no saplings).
Awesome farm, perhaps the best i've seen. Quick question, how tall does the wood grow for each of your trees? I know that the range you can harvest is 3 spaces.
I recently deforested a huge chuck of my map to make way for progress.. this could be a nice way to not have to travel to collect wood.
How many open spaces and what are their dimensions above the saplings being grown for wood?
Without the outer layer shown in the last picture[to stop even more excess leafs] it is like this

The wheat of course signifying a sapling.
i have not tried any higher but it seems as 7 might actually be too much. another look at it when the tree has grown is this:

i also sometimes get leaves at the top 2 blocks, but i ALWAYS get 5 logs a tree.

Good job, there isn't enough room for that to grow.
Thanks Bruh, Seems to work 100% fine to me. i won't be whoring my servers ip but if you would like to be proven wrong inbox me, and ill ip you to show you that it does, in fact work.

No, But they do. I have not tried this in single player, but it works perfectly fine SMP.
I can only sigh at that second part. Think they have more important things to fix other than trees growing on a 1x1 scale....?

Cool!
But, I'm pretty sure that's underground, not indoor.
Meh, same thing imho, surround it in wood or with stone, it's the same base idea. Nice use of the italics code bruh.

Of course that's what my middle trees are for, the mass drop saplings.

Thank you, i love my creations and this has to be the best laid out one i've done yet. i get 5 blocks of log every time, no more no less. as i showed in my first quote. check it out, :biggrin.gif:. IMHO this is the BEST way to harvest wood, with one full double chest down after a good week or so, I'm regretting making it so large.

I love the 1x1 design. I'm gonna use it.
Awesome, Thanks for the +1. I will put up a video soon enough on how i did this and might even do some gut work to show the full structure.
Wow, that is pretty neat. It would seem that Notch has removed the bit of code where blocks next to a sapling limits the space a tree has to grow. Now it looks like only the leaves will not grow, rather than the whole tree.

It is possible for you to get a tree with four logs with that setup, but it is very unlikely, as medium size trees are more likely to grow than small and large ones.
Anyways, my question to you is, what is the point of tube tree farming? Why not just plant saplings in a row, you can fit more in that way, and you get more saplings from the same batch.
Pretty nice, but if I were you, I would've made it way bigger.
Yeah i plan on expanding.. that's actually how i found the zombie spawner right next to it.. got a little side tracked by making the trap :biggrin.gif:

Leaves are pretty buggy in SMP, in that they sometimes appear invisible. It can happen to an individual player, who cannot interact with the leaves, but still collide with them (jerky movement like when atop a fence).
Destroying a nearby leaf or something like that will make other leaves appear, possibly due to the decay code. It looks like the tree is growing
It only seems to happen when trees are grown indoors/too close together. I wouldn't recommend it, so if you're going for tube trees, I suggest sealing the top and outwards, so only the 1x2 access remains.
Sealing the top and outwards? I actually might try this.. i have been noticing that i get stuck while walking around a bit by invisible objects, thanks.

I do like getting the 4-5 logs a tube, plus it looks clean.
Well i like organization, instead of having to go through a full room of trees and cutting my way through, I can just simply walk up to a base, cut in, and cut up. No worries about excess baggage, etc.
This is -- and has for a long time been -- completely within the rules of tree growth. People who think otherwise need to get their info from better sources.
Nice application. You can leave the middle trees alone until you need more saplings, the main trees are easy and safe to access.

Thanks for that, I'll get 3ish sapplings from the "tube" growth and before i did this i got a good 40ish sapplings before application, i should be good for a while. :biggrin.gif:

^Really? According to these very forums, this was "fixed"... And my tests back then seemingly confirmed that.
But that's good news. That means it's less likely to actually be fixed. I must say I've never experienced trees grow right next to each other before...
Then you haven't put 4 saplings in a 2x2 area an watched them grow seemingly together. Please don't come in here yelling glitch glitch "ill report this glitch" or whatever because right now i think they have WAY more, ACTUAL glitches on their plate. I'd like the diamond tools to start showing status on the bars.. etcetcetcetcetcetcetcetcetc....

Well then I must have missed a thread. I've been correcting this error in thread after thread for months now.
Okay for those who want to know. I've had a farm like this since BEFORE signs, iron doors and paintings. Whatever came first.
And for a quite a bit of time someone else had been doing it and put it on the forums. It will be somewhere in Alpha Archives.

Yeah, that was kind of my big moment here. Sorry for boasting.
