I currently have two in my survival world, the desert one is the first base I built, the stone one is the fourth one (current). Think the desert one is 51 blocks per side, the stone one 57. I used steps/stairs to build the strucuture so mobs would not spawn on the outside; this would help you i guess as this will mean more mobs will spawn inside as they cant use the space outside. The beacon in the stone one has the jump power activated as the outer ring on the pyramid is blocks so mobs cannot climb up it from the outside (the desert one is fenced off), but a player can using the jump power. Each pyramid has a concealed piston door in the middle of each face.
Also, to get mobs to spawn in the pyramid in large numbers you will have to limit other nearby spawning areas, by lighting up underground caves and dark places, and the outlying areas around the pyramid (which you could half slab, of if its grass, make it a path block).
My friend Sam and I have built multiple pyramids on various servers. Our biggest was probably 110 per side built out of sandstone. We were building a Egyptian city at the time and had like 5 pyramids of various sizes planned. I think we eventually built 3 of them and then lost that server. I might still have some screenshots. The nice thing about a pyramid is you can use the whole top as the base for a beacon similar to what Mr. Derman did. That makes fighting the mobs inside a whole lot easier and more fun if you put strength and/or speed and regen on. We used them basically as XP rooms...going in there when we wanted XP for any reason...
Also, it's a blast to ride horses up and down the bigger pyramids! One fun variation is also to put a red beacon on top and every corner of the rows, use netherack and light it up. Looks really really cool at nighttime. Only bad thing is if you do that variation, it's not as fun to ride the horses up and down then...lol
We tried to build a to-scale Great Pyramid of Giza on our server several years ago, didn't even get to the 1/4 done stage when the server had to reset the map due to map corruption or a major update, I forget which. I've got a couple of small pyramid-shaped temples on our current server, but with the top flattened a bit to be the base for a giant creeper or enderdragon statue.
Good luck with your pyramid project. If you do plan on leaving it dark inside for mob spawning/fighting, might I suggest you line the inside of the walls with obsidian or at least cobblestone? If you leave it as sandstone or sandstone steps, creepers detonating near the walls are likely to blow large holes in the outer walls. Cobblestone will be destroyed but protect the sandstone behind it, obsidian will block the explosion completely. Water will work as well, if you don't feel like mining that much obbi or lava.

Thank you MartinTheMess!! Your suggestion about obsidian is really good! I will use it or at least cobblestone!
@Mr_N_Derman and everyone that could help me: can you post some screenshot about piston doors entrance to Pyramids? I think that a normal door isn't pretty .. Thanks!
Even tho they both have piston doors, they are different. The first one in the desert base had a pressure plate inside and outside you had to stand on to open/close the door (T Flip-Flop), but that meant it could be opened by other mobs (Endermen teleporting in in my case as the fence stopped ordinary mobs) and could be left open. The second one at the stone pyramid had a button outside/pressure plate inside to open the door and was opened on a timer and would auto shut after around 5 seconds. When i re-did the desert base doors recently i changed them to the timer version, but with pressure plates inside and outside still.
Here are some pics to show the current type of piston door I have which uses a timer. I've spaced it out a bit so you can see whats happening, but you may be able to compact it a bit depening on how you lay it out. Its a double action door; there are 6 sticky pistons involved, the first action retracts the steps (2 pistons) and then the steps and the pistons that retracted them are retracted (4 pistons) into the wall, so you can walk past.
Point A is under the pressure plate (in this example) both inside and outside. Stepping on the plate sends a signal to the timer to run (this is a MumboJumbo design which uses 6 comparators which recycle a signal to nothing - the position of the repeaters on the A lines determines how long the signal runs; the closer to the timer, the longer it runs) which has a redstone torch attached because when the door is closed, all the pistons need to be powered. So as soon as the timer starts the torch is deactivated and the pistons retract. The only other thing to note is the 4 pistons on the E side (the second action powered by the D line) need to be depowered slightly after the two pistons on the F side (the first action powered by the C line) because those 4 need to retract after the first 2. So the repeaters going to them should be set to 2 or 3 ticks each (the D line has a repeater in it because the redstone was over 16 blocks away, which adds another tick anyway).
If you want to change the door to stay open til you activae a pressure plate, change the timer for a T flip-flop (you can find examples of these on the internet) the one I favour uses 3 hoppers, a dropper, a comparator and some repeaters, but you can use what you want.
So, after the test i choose the Mr_N_Derman's system.
I would create a pyramid with sea lantern blocks because i have a big Guardian Mobs farm and i would utilize it for my project.
In this way my Pyramid will be forever lit.
I plan on leaving it dark inside with the suggestion of MartinTheMess.
I have to decide only the dimension: i think i'll try with a 57 blocks every side. i'm not a great mathematician.... how many sea lanterns i have to create?
Hi all.
I love Egypt and Pyramids, so i would create a big Pyramid in my survival word.
The best will be if the hostile mobs can spawn into the Pyramid. I'm thinking a Pyramid with an entrance for fight mobs that spawn inside.
You think this work? Someone have already build this structure (or something like this) to show here for me?
Thanks.
P.s: the idea was born while i'm reading this:

Hi!!!
Thank you @herb_ for the Youtube video, from it i have recreated the hidden staircase doorway and work with MC 1.12!!!
The Mr_N_Derman's pics show a sistem that appear more compact and i will try it for choose the better...
Thank you very much guys!
Have a nice mining!
