Hello there! Big Minecraft fan, been playing since 1.8, mostly SMP but now I am deploying and will have a year of some single player action.
I plan on seeing what I can achieve with a year of 1 map, but knowing how I play I will probably reset several times (I just like having nothing, having an empire gets old for me )
Anywho I need some suggestions to enhance my singe player experience, the way I like to play, specifically with mods and such I will download before I go.
For example: I really like /home, /sethome etc. I know there is a mod for single player commands, which I will download.
I need suggestions for other mods to make it "kind of" like SMP. Is there a mod for McMMO single player? Is there a mod that I can turn off creeper explosions and fire spread?
Any other mods I can download that will make my year of offline play more fun?
Alternatively, set up your own bukkit server on your machine for your main map. It is really easy to do, and that way you can have all the plugins you are used to and like (mcmmo and essentials and so on).
A couple of other ideas (which you may not like since you have a well defined play style already by the sound of it):
I also suggest downloading some of the new adventure maps for the occasional diversion (like HyPixel's Mansion one). THat way you have the best of both worlds.
Another idea (can be survival or creative) is to attempt to create a mega structure... like a city, castle, a replica of a real world building/feature... or work on creating an adventure map of your own.
Personally I don't think there's a single mod that isn't cheating, but if you want to use them, just set up a server for yourself and whitelist so you're the only person on it.
(Btw, please don't disable creeper explosions. That removes an awful lot of the creeper problem - them making the place look ugly)
First off let me say I already use Rei's and I plan on using single player commands. (Sorry, I don't mean to use it as a cheat ((creative)) but as a way to /home ) hell even Skyrim has fast travel xD )
Anyways, I think I am looking for more of a filler for 1 year real life time. I understand the game in all its mechanics (thank you god 1.4.2 came out before I left, great patch), but at the same time I am trying to put the game in a state that I can live with for a year.
I know creepers blow stuff up, I get it, I understand, but its such a downer on my gameplay that I just give up. Im not particularly fond of the way mobs spawn (like oh great, 4 skeletons, 3 zombies, 3 spiders just spawned in front of me. *rape*. Oh now a creeper blew up, so not only did I lose about 27 diamonds, but my house is now demolished. *delete game*."
Sorry thats not how I roll xD Call me spoiled from SMP. I do plan on doing some big projects while I am not able to access the internet. I dont know if I should do a castle, a village, an empire...Hell I don't know. I won't pretend to know until I pick a seed and start rolling with it. That's why this game is so great. Thank you though for all your reponses.
If you have any more keep them coming! What I should build, why/when etc. I have about 12 months to perfect things and I may reset a few times but I want to try and build a legit no-cheating area for myself and maybe a few friends if I can figure out how to LAN. Thanks!

Definitely download some of the saved worlds/adventure worlds others have made. At worst, they're wasted space on your drive. More likely, you'll get burned out on your own world for a bit from time to time and it's nice to have a distraction that's a whole world someone else built rather than starting a new world from scratch where you have to deal with the boring punching wood to make your first tools to make your first hole in the ground. Also, if you're like me, you won't feel as compelled to start and finish a bunch of projects that will keep you from getting back to your "main" world if you're just vacationing in a place someone else made. You may also get inspired while visiting if you don't have internet access to come here for inspiration.
Other than that, I've heard good things about (but haven't tried yet myself) mods that add new "worlds" to your existing world like Twilight Forest, Mystcraft, etc. Always good to have some change of scenery.
Best of luck with the gaming, stay safe on your deployment, and thank you for your service.
