I've been having a slight problem recently with making snow golems.
They keep dying a few seconds after I make one.
I'll place the 2 snow blocks then the pumpkin on top and it will create the snow golem but shortly after it's body goes partially red as if it's taking damage and dies.
I want to say it's almost like it's suffocating in the blocks but I don't see how, the room was 3 tall the first 2 I tried and on the 3rd try I lowered the floor to make the room 4 blocks tall and it still died.
I mean it's not exactly a "top priority" issue to get sorted out but I'd like to try and have one of each friendly mob in my house and this is kind of making things difficult.
Unfortunately, I am going to bed now so I wont see or reply for several hours but any help will be greatly appreciated!
Snow Golems will now only survive in Snow Biomes or Tiaga Biomes - Unfortunately you may have to move your home or live without the Snow Golems
Snow Golems will also melt if it's raining or snowing - so if you do move your home to a Tiaga or snow Biome make sure your Golems are under a roof. Hope this info helps
Aw man that sucks my house is located right in the middle of a jungle biome :/
Albeit my house is underground and has an escape hatch to the surface, oh well.
Hmmmm that's weird. I've seen Snow Golems take damage and die in a Forest Biome. I guess that was either a bug, or it came into contact with sand [which obviously can be found on the edge of rivers/ponds etc] and the game interpreted the sand as "desert"
Did it fall into water? They die in water and rain aswell
I actually had the exact same problem, in a desert biome, while trying to make a snow generator. The snow golem died in the desert. I actually thought it was a bug, then I read the wiki.
I was all, NO DANG YOU DESERT!

I laughed when I saw this because i thought it was a troll. Then I saw that you were serious, and laughed harder.

They survive anywhere except the Nether and the Desert as long as it isn't raining on them.

I had the exact same problem. But I got lucky that I found a convenient spot in my base that happened to be in a river biome. I find river biomes cutting through jungles quite a bit. I suggest walking around your underground base and see if you can find a spot like that, or go outside, scope out a nearby river or other suitable biome, and extend a path to that from your base. Alternately, maybe you can set up a Nether portal to fast travel and keep your fingers crossed that you pop out in a snow-golem-friendly biome on the other side
I think that biomes sorta blend around the edges so if you're near the border it might not be the biome it looks like?
I didn't, as this was about a year ago, before I knew the debug screen was a thing. I do remember it was next to a forest and I believe a desert. I was in a bay with a series of sand islands, I settled on one of them.

No, they survive in all biomes except the Nether, Jungles, and Deserts. They also fixed the bug so they won't die in the snow, only the rain
I am ninja'd far too often.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Because the snow doesn't actually make it cold, MC just checks the biome.
Just testing.
Make sure you have something over it like a slab, so it does not get melted by the sun.

I'm pretty sure that only protects them from rain.
Just testing.
Problem with this is, I've made snow golems on a beach in a building (with a roof) and they still die.
I post pretty rarely nowadays. Gosh, I wish this place weren't so... empty...
Did you check the biome with F3?

Any source of heat like torches glowstone or lava. And to much damage may kill them easily?

Torches, glowstone and sunlight do not melt snow golems!
Nor does lava, unless they are in direct contact with it.
(Tested in 1.8.3)
Just testing.
Light sources do not melt them. Lava does not kill them unless they fall into it.
