I have a 9x11 floor area and i cant come up with a good design for it. Anyone have any good ideas on what to do. Also looking for good step by step buildings in SMP
I find that alternating smooth stone with smooth stone slabs (double stacked) makes for an elegant tile design
- Smooth stone can be made by "cooking" cobblestone in a furnace, harvesting it with a silk-touch pickaxe.
- Smooth stone slabs are made by placing three smooth stone blocks in a horizontal row on a crafting table.
"I'm an engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like,
'What is beauty?', because that would fall within the purview of your
conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems."

A floor design that I like is just using logs and alternating between the wood grain going vertical and horizontal. It's pretty simple, but it looks good. Just don't try it with Birch, that would look awful in my opinion.
EDIT: Here's a pic of the wood design with the four kinds of wood. I think Spruce looks the best.
I can't have a wool floor. I just can't stand hearing my feet go "mush mush mush" when I walk.
Then again, most of what I build is castles, and they just need stone bricks everywhere. Maybe some day we'll get bearskins to throw around. That would be Viking.
This is thread is proof that you can't go wrong with tiling.

I thought a really cool design was when you place down oak wood logs and then put in birch wood logs except facing side to side. But, this has to be in a checkerboard. So its really cool.
To clarify:
-Do this in a pattern that is checkerboard like.
-birch logs.
-oak wooden planks.
-birch must be facing one side or the other.
Thanks!

In my profile, there's a screen shot of my Nether Portal room on my current base. The floor there is this kind of tiling on the default texture pack.
EDIT: Here it is!

This one's very resource heavy if you're on Survival mode but looks really good!
