I dont know what it is but i used to keep chickens in my melon and wheat farm on mc.smashcraftonline.com and it was fine my chickens never despawned or died. But it started annoying me so i built a room under that where i was gonna keep chickens. But ive tryed like 3 sets of 10 eggs and all of them have despawned. I have grass on the floor troches on the wall, glowstone on the ceiling, and some sugarecane along the Wall. An admin told me to put fence on the wall but that dident work. Does anyone know what to do?

Maybe they are too crowded. Mine sometimes die out if I have too many in a small area.
Aside from the usual, animals glitching through walls and escaping problem, chickens will often get pushed, or somehow push themselves in to walls and take some suffocation damage. In 1.9 this problem was very pronounced, you could sit and watch a group of chickens exterminate themselves just wandering around the world.
The best way I have seen at slowing chicken attrition is to have a water filled pen which pushes everything away from the walls.
If you have plenty of wood, you can make a floating chicken farm. Put signs on every ground square, then water above those. Put fences bordering the water, then more floating water bordering the fences just in case. Chickens cannot sink (at least in SP) so they will stay in the water. Water stops them being pushed as much, and the fences mean they shouldnt suffocate.
If too many chickens are in a small area they will start clipping into walls, and suffocating and dying. This can be alleviated by using glass walls for a chicken coop, since transparent blocks do not cause suffocation.

But then they lag thru it and die anyway
However, I only play SP so this may not work.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Video on how to download it here:
1: He is on a server, so Mo' Creatures won't effect the animals despawning.
2: I don't think animals despawn in vanilla minecraft anymore anyway do they?
Snowey1994: There dispensers
That should solve the problem.
