And welcome to the World of Tandas. Yup, totally randomed the key presses on my keyboard, and I'm growing to like the name. Tandas is set in a Biomes O'Plenty map, where I removed thorns and poison ivy because ugh. Took a while for me to find a seed I like, but I like this one, so I'm sticking to it. Or so some people would remember from my previous journal before I lost interest in it, and eventually just flat-out lost it.
This time, I'm giving another shot at Thaumcraft. I say "another" because I've tried it on another map, but I wasn't happy with the seed and stopped playing on it. This seed, however, was an instant like. As an offset of years of getting lost in worlds because I'm awful with the ingame map system, I don't venture out too much out of spawn for fear of losing my way. Even with JourneyMap, it's still a struggle. I'm also not a fan of frozen biomes; I'm tired of spawning in Savannahs and Extreme Hills; I need wool, leather and chickens around; I need various wood types. I'm a bit picky.
So here's a list of the mods I'm using: it's really small.
- Biomes O'Plenty
- Thaumcraft V
- Baubles
- JourneyMap
- Shaders: Sildurs Vibrant Shaders v1.414 High
Seed: "7130865158336503006"
I spawned near a Magical Forest near a desert, then made my way northeast through some Lavender Fields and Prairie biomes. There's some more forests, a Grove, Grasslands, a Moor, a Bog and Prairies nearby. There's also a village somewhere, but I haven't visited yet - I want to be ready to secure it quickly... when I'm ready for it.
Didn't even realize it was a desert until I copy/pasted the picture in here. Yuuuuup.
Back view of spawn.
I spent like, 2 nights in this.
My first days were spent shaderless and trying to find a good setup for a base - it was a very, very tiny place at first, made in jacaranda wood and dirt. Later, I killed some sheep for wool to make a bed, and dug a small hole in the Moor to put my stuff into. This will be a mine later on. Then I went to set up a farm and hunt resources down, see what else was around. I found some sugar canes, discovered a Roofed Forest with some pumpkins, as well as one of those Great Trees with cobwebs - spawners. I'll need to armor up before heading back there.
Mini-base / mine entrance.
*shudder*
Pumpkins!
After rounding up some cows, I started working on my actual base, which will be a manor-style base... I think. I setup a tree farm very close to the base, added some sheep, some chicken, pumpkin patches, worked some more on the base. I added a second floor, which still needs outside decoration. The first floor will be a living area, with a bed for now, and the upper floor will be a storage room. There's still a few problems I gotta solve, like why don't sheep eat the grass from the BOP silty dirt, which I think I can replace with regular grass.
Base of a base.
Now with sheep and chicken!
Nnnnnffffhhh the sunset~ so pretty *_*
Now with a decent setup, I can start poking around Thaumcraft...
I had crafted my wand early on. I made some books and scribling tools, as well as some paper, then made a table, a bookshelf, and finally the Thaumonomicon. Completely forgot to make the table a research table, and right-clicked on it with my wand: at least, I now have an arcane workbench. Got my research table, and sat down for some research.
It took me a few tries, but I managed something with the Thaumonomicon. I got my second research right pretty fast as well. I got a Focus Pouch - no idea what that is really, but it cost me 3 exp level. Of course, I'm missing stuff to craft it, namely a belt, so I need alchemical brass and leather. Let's take a look at other things...
<Insert item chime from Legend of Zelda here>
<Insert Book of Mudora chime here>
After scribbling with a foci research, I heard my heartbeast race ingame and my vision darkened. WHAT. THE. FLYING. DUCKLETT. That's stuff straight outta Eternal Darkness whaaaaa. Everything calmed down afterwards, and I resumed my research.
2 days passed until I went out again, and that was mostly due to my ink running out. I killed some squids, tended to my crops and my cows, then came back inside. I managed to unlock the foci, and I think I understand how they work now... and oh boy I need that grapple. Not sure if that should be my first goal... so I went to check out Alchemy.
To do Alchemy, looks like I need a crucible - easy done - and materials. And a heat source. You'll notice I live in a wooden house... so I need to make a safe room. So I need to mine anyways. In other words: WE'RE GONNA GO CAVE!
Next update, that is.

Thaumcraft is fun! On a practical level, however, I don't find I use Thaumcraft stuff much before I go to the Nether. You need Glowstone for Nitor and Nether Quartz for wand foci, so you're pretty limited before that. You do need to start the research early, because there's a lot to do.
You're lucky to start next to a Magical Forest. They can get pretty rare. In my journal world with Thaumcraft I had 30 episodes before I finally found one, thousands of blocks from spawn. I found a closer one later, but it was still over 3000 blocks away.

Geographicraft (formerly Climate Control) - Control climate, ocean, and land sizes; stop chunk walls; put modded biomes into Default worlds, and more!
RTG plus - All the beautiful terrain of RTG, plus varied and beautiful trees and forests.
Oh boy. I'm sorry I haven't updated this thread yet, but I ran into issues. I had a charity stream event with friends from work, and since the server was gonna run in 1.7.10, I thought I'd make a new profile. I derped up, changed from the Forge version to vanilla 1.7.10 in my Thaumcraft profile, tried to get in the server, which failed, downloaded other stuff to get into the server, and forgot to change the version back afterwards. Loaded in to witness the corruption of my world. Farm seeds popping out, blocks getting destroyed or randomly popping up too, loot 100% gone... so I lost interest in that world.
So I took some time to find a new seed to live in, and I did. I've been working on a new base in a Jungle M, and I'm having fun with it. I haven't explored it much yet, looking forward to it though.
List of mods (it's short):
- Thaumcraft V
- Biomes O'Plenty
- Fast Leave Decay
- Pam's Harvestcraft
- Journeymap
Seed: "-4403939281514924353"
As I was saying, it's a Jungle M. Has some neat places to build. I'm close to a Thaumcraft Magical Forest, a good ol' Roofed Forest, a Wetland and some Swampland-looking place. There's also Extreme Hill and Taiga varitations past the Roofed Forest, and that's about all I know.
My entire time, so far, was working on my base and getting cats. And there's a couple hours of gameplay in there. I got some sheep, some cows, a melon, wheat and potato farm, a small tree farm, and a basement in the works. There's also the slowly-developping rail glass tunnel between my base and the Magical Forest, because why not.
I've barely touched Thaumcraft - made a wand, got my Thaumonomicon and a Crucible. Research is nill.
So this is spawn. Even got some melons near~
Neat scenery too!
The place where I decided to make the base...
Base area looks fairly small, but I'm living inside of that thing. The bedroom's facing east; I get a nice sunrise.
The first night...
And now!
Rest of the base:
Basement, before...
Basement after!
So I have a few cats. They took a while to get. They don't spawn that often, but I found one early-ish on. 5 minutes later, if even, the lil' sucker had to get stuck under my bridge and drowned. Some time spent before I could run into two others, and I was more careful this time around.
I also have a mine that goes down to y20 or so and goes through an underground ravine, but I haven't done much about it yet. Will turn it into a branch mine later on.
One last thing before I respond to the comment I got weeks ago (I'm so sorry I didn't reply faster!)... I'm looking for materials to decorate the basement. I thought about clay, I have access to a swamp so there's bound to be some, but I'm not sure yet. I could keep going with wood, but I don't know myself @_@. Guess I want something different, maybe.

I lucked out on the seeds, I guess. It's not the first one I get that has one nearby. And wow, 3000 blocks for one @_@.
The Nether's one of my next steps, probably after some research, now that I understand how to research things. I'm still debating if I'll have my portal in my base or further away though.
