Well executed. I can't tell 100% by looks how efficient it is of course, but it looks more than efficient for single player survival. Not to mention, it looks absolutely awesome, and you kept the monument feel. I do like the fact you made drop mode/xp mode, people often tend to forget with their farms, to make it multi functional, or even suggest it. People do not play the game the same, and they may end up doing this, before making any other farms, or grinders so why not suggest multiple funtions.

Thanks. It's definitely not as efficient as it could be. There is land nearby on one side, and I have not lit up caves or done any other area prep at all. I had planned on doing that once the farm was up and running, but the drop rates were so high that it just was not needed. Even at night, when hostile mobs are spawning on the land outside, the drop rates are still very high.
The farm was originally built in the 1.8 series with the old style block glitch item elevator (using fences to push the items up into the blocks) which would not work in the newer 1.9+ versions, so I recently had to make some extensive modifications to the farm. The old item elevator had a steady stream of items flowing upward, and was fed from both sides. It looked very cool! The new item elevator moves items in large clumps, and both droppers had to be on the same side. Not as cool looking, but it works. And it was the only 1.9+ item elevator design I tried that could keep up with the farm's output (dropper elevators weren't even close to fast enough). I also modified the hopper pipes to eliminate some bottlenecks (each dropper is now fed by two hopper pipes so any backlog is now buffered in the dropper).
An extra benefit of having an XP mode is that I can effectively shut off the farm when I need to fix or modify something. When the button is pushed the mob cap is reached pretty quickly, allowing me to work without worrying about the guardians.
An unexpected problem I found was that ink was getting stuck in the corners of the funnel and not flowing to the drop. When I built this farm back in the early 1.8 series I had tested the flow in the funnel area quite extensively, and this was definitely not a problem back then. In fact, since most of the squid ink was flowing in from the corners, I originally only had hoppers in the corners collecting the ink. I don't know what version changed things, but I did notice that I was not getting ink as fast as I used to, which prompted me to make a hopper ring all the way around the drop zone. This helped, but it still seemed like ink collection was very slow. While I was making the other changes to the farm for v1.9 I decided to fix this problem as well. While investigating I discovered the problem with the corners and found that adding a block in the corner fixed it. This kind of modification would have been very difficult without XP mode, since it involved working up in the spawn area.
Here's a picture of the XP mode kill room:
The redstone lamps in the ceiling indicate XP mode. Another stone button (next to the pile of guardians in the picture) allows me to control XP/Collection mode from the kill room. There are several brewing stands for making the harming potions, as well as two anvils for servicing my armor, tools and weapons (not visible in the picture).
One of these days I'll get around to posting my own, more detailed thread about some of my interesting farms (like this one and my underground iron farm)...
First I built a scaffolding around the ocean monument with a 60x60 drop area.
This made it easier to drop gravel for the temporary wall.
After building the temporary gravel wall I left the area long enough to let any guardians outside the wall despawn.
Next I built a 62x62 light-blue stained glass wall outside the gravel. Since all the newly spawned guardians were inside the gravel wall, I could build in peace.
I used a Nether Portal for quick travel back to my base as needed (upper-right of wall in picture above).
Then I used gravel to section off small areas that were easy to drain with sponges.
I had already killed the Elder Guardians and drained the inside before I started on the outside. The entire original monument was harvested to build the farm. The spawn area is 58x58x16 with a lower slab roof and some solid blocks near the top of the wall (high light levels reduce spawn rates).
The main spawn area water is suspended over open fence gates (because signs cause lag), and the guardians are funneled to a 4x4 drop (with water over the drop to prevent them from jumping over it). The funnel is also within the monument spawn area, so guardians can spawn there as well.
The guardians fall through 4 blocks of lava to weaken them, then burn to death on a bed of hoppers which collect the drops.
Dual hopper pipes feed dual droppers that shoot items into a water stream that ends in a trapdoor driven block glitch item elevator. That leads up to a high capacity item sorter and storage system. Should an overflow occur, excess items are fed to a disposal system.
Four rows of double chests for Prismarine, two for Prismarine Crystals, one for Squid Ink (which is collected by a ring of hoppers around the drop zone) and a final row for unsorted items (mostly fish, or anything else that ends up in the system).
You may have noticed the stone button near the corner of the collection area. That switches the farm from Collection mode to XP mode. In XP mode a series of pistons release water and opens a drop path to a room below. The water puts out the already weakened guardians and flushes them down to the kill room. I wait in that room until the mob cap is reached (the guardians stop spawning) then toss a potion of harming to finish them off and get bathed in the light of glorious XP.
Admittedly this farm was quite a lot of work (took some long breaks from playing this world while building it), and is pretty OP for a single player world, but now that it's finished I'm pretty happy with it.
Draining that much water is a huge project, but I'm glad Marinade posted the large version for you. I suggested the smaller gold room version, because I consider it more practical for single player.
Currently I have an issue with guardians seeing me while invisible, even with nothing equipped. It's making my current guardian farm project more difficult than I anticipated. But I shall prevail! Working on the drop shaft now.
Quite a lot, but the ocean floor was mostly gravel, so it wasn't hard to find. Also, once I started clearing the water I was able to reclaim gravel from dry areas and reuse it. Sponges were actually a bigger problem, because the monument only had a single sponge room. I raided another monument to get more sponges (that monument has been gutted on the inside, but the outside is still untouched).
Getting enough sand and blue orchids for all the stained glass (not to mention, smelting it all) was also a lot of work.
Here's a tip to help clear the inside, use slime blocks. Slime blocks insta-break, even with Mining Fatigue. It really helps you section off and clear areas prior to killing the elder guardians. Take at least a stack, and preferably two.

You're right with the slime blocks. Easily the best thing to take with you.
You also do not have to use sponges, it's just a time saver. If you have the inventory, you can take sand/gravel and use just that to clear out all the water. Just start at the top, and let them drop. Fill an area, leave a wall, retrieve blocks, rinse repeat. For fun, and not practical... if you have a wool/spider farm, fill it up with wool, grab a flint and steel, watch the world burn. Not practical, but fun and challenging nonetheless. Remember water breathing pots, or practice the torch trick, and smooth sailing.
Many different ways to do it, just depends on your resources, and the challenge/fun factor. Generally with oceans, you have an almost unlimited amount of gravel...not really, but it sure does feel like it.

I rarely do ocean monuments but half created villages are not uncommon...
When I find one I recreate the world and use WorldEdit-Forge to make a //copy... //schematic save village (on the copied world).
Then go to my original world and //schematic load village... //paste, problem solved!
Just make sure you //expand up and down (can be //expand 30 30 u or d) to get everything.
I usually //copy and //paste on the NE corner of the well but use whatever works for you. //copy and //paste needs to be the same x, y,, and z positions on both worlds.
I rarely do ocean monuments but half created villages are not uncommon...

I love that seed but since the spawn area is on the ocean it will make hard for me to create anything without moving away from spawn which I don't want to do until the release of 1.11.

Wow, thanks for all those tips. I think it will take a lot of work just to gather all the material required to do this project alone. I am not in a rush though. I am just trying to have fun and enjoy the process.

Then I mined the entire monument and built a farm from cobblestone. I think it took me about a month and a half of play time to finish it. Don't be like me. Of course while I did all that, I did build a small farm to work while I was working. Then I didn't have to worry about food because I had lots of fish.

On the topic of guardian farms, my friends and I built a MASSIVE guardian farm that can produce up to 100,000 items per hour. (I haven't tested the one we built, so I don't know the exact rate).

I think i had the same seed as you becasue once i spawned in and island and there was and ocean monument close to it.
