Hey so I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet, but what happens with /publish if you have mods active in your world that add new blocks or mechanics? Does the person joining see these blocks, or will it not let them connect? Would just like to know if anyone has tried this using the new snapshot.
Since there are no mods for the current snapshot (besides TMI, which wouldn't work because it's client-side), no one can really test this, but it is a very good question.
Yea I think it really is... I mean could this be the shape of the Modding API??? What if they have fixed it so that by using this "/publish" command you can just basically play along with them using their game files and mods?
I WANT TO BE ABLE TO TEST THIS lol... Leaning towards that it wont work at all though
Without the modding API, no. For Minecraft 1.3, you'll have to install the mod two times, in the normal minecraft.jar and minecraft_server.jar for LAN play. Your friends would also need to install the mod to see the content, otherwise it would turn out wrong.
That's the unfortunate answer for both modders and mod users , but I'm sure the people from Bukkit working on the modding API are going to make this very simple in the release of 1.4.
You can test it with the Emerald tools and armor mod, it's 12w24a compatible! Please test, me and my bro might get it but we want to know if it will work, we think you install the mod on both minecraft.jars and it'll work correctly, as theirs no minecraft_server.jar created by LAN servers. (I think their's no minecraft_server.jar, haven't located it yet.)
More doubleposting/bumping... this is even on the wrong section. I doubt it. Only YOU have the mods, not the friend, and it's a server, therefore, the friend needs to install the mods as said above.
This wouldn't work at all, 100%, because yours is modded theirs isn't, this is basic modding information, who is your teacher?
(lololol, meme time<3) (Sorry if this counts as a double post)
For above post: I don't have the server file in my .minecraft and it's been working fine with LAN gameplay, I'm gonna test this and report if it works or not.
Edit: Can't test, bro being a ***** about getting winrar and mods (sorry for language)
Yea as I said I am pretty sure it probably won't function correctly at this point but it is worth try just to see the result. And i posted in this section of the forums because the others are inactive as **** lol....
Ever been in creative on a server and tried to give yourself a mod item? You just get java.timeout.stuff as soon as any mod block gets loaded by your friend, he will be out but i think if both have the same mods, it will work.

Yeah that is true. I hope the functionality of Spout is implemented into the version of Minecraft with the modding API.
Considering the only mod for the snapshot is TooManyItems, we haven't.
