Sand, gravel, water, and lava do obey normal physics(aside from water and lava flowing far from their 1 cubic meter source), though. I've never seen the floating water glitch except in chunk errors, but I have seen floating sand in a server.

lol when does minecraft not break the law of physics? If it was more realistic for physics the game wouldn't be as good... personally i love floating islands as a home...

The un-updated sand and gravel... my old nemesis. I have gotten killed many times in a row from digging on top of gravel in the Nether that has not been updated.
