I was looking through the thread to see if anyone actually mentioned the Crafting Table. I've been playing since before crafting was introduced. So yes, for me it's the Crafting Table. Without that it's impossible to progress further into the game.
pistons (have to admit, I hate not being able to turn off the hunger bar.)

Are youbored of minecraft? It's not the new features. I'll give you a hint:It's the terrain generation. Go play a map generated in 1.7.3 or earlier, then tell me you don't agree.
I would definitely have to say the "Hunger" update as it gives more of a "survival" effect to the gameplay experience. Pistons on the building side would be an up for me as they are wonderful in so many of my builds.
I've been playing since Alpha 1.0.7, July 20th 2010. There have been so many irreplaceable things since then. Beds, pistons, compass, clock, bricks, and reeds are a few of the things to be added since then.
I started in Beta 1.8.1 just before 1.0.0 came out. Animal breeding with wheat by is by far my favorite addition. Also Redstone Lamps take out a lot of the complicated redstone wiring to have light switches before.
Spawn Eggs. I need to spawn my Endermen!

The Nether. Glowstone is great and I prefer it over Jack o' lanterns. Netherrack making infinitly burning fire is hugely needed for traps and lighting (fire just looks cooler). Netherrack became even better for me after Notch made it impossible to have infinitely burning wood. The huge lava pools made lava more available for me to use for various things. I haven't really found much use for soulsand though.
There's also that bag mod. It's like a dream come true!
Oh and the hunger bar! It feels more like my character is surviving off the land with it, but it sucks that it doesn't work in peaceful mode. I always choose peaceful mode when I first start or when I'm in a cave with lava. Or when I just feel like building new stuff on my land without having to deal with mobs, lol. I love working on my farm/ranch.
Good call. Thats about the only thing that has been added that I just couldn't live without. It made working with redstone so much easier and straightforward.
Pretty sure sneaking was introduced before the Nether came out Maelstrom. Maybe you just didn't know about it then.
OMG I almost forgot redstone lamps! The single most amazing block in the game! Well, you know. Besides diamond blocks

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
