First of all, I think it'd be nice to see a subforum for discussing mobs (one for enemies, one for friendlies). More organization is always nice and gives more people a chance to be heard/seen.
Now, this thread is for sharing thoughts on Endermen (gameplay-wise), be it just the impressions they give or gameplay suggestions.
Now, originally, Endermen only attacked after you looked away from them. I guess this made them sitting ducks for archers, though, so it was changed to making them instantly attack. The problem I have is that now, they're not scary. They startle a little when they first show up, but once you're aware of them, there's no real tension.
I think that it should return to Endermen staring you down if you look at them, but they should only be unable to walk when looked at. They can still teleport over much shorter distances. This way, the moment you make eye contact, there's only a few seconds to prepare yourself before they begin abruptly and unpredictably advancing, restoring the tension while preserving the threat.
If you look away from them, they behave as they do now when attacking. Full mobility.
Also worth considering is allowing them to throw blocks they're holding, either damaging the player on hit or placing the block where it lands (with flowers and mushrooms only taking root if they strike suitable ground, and otherwise just being their item forms).

I'm just trying to be a better Minecrafter.

Last I knew their behavior hadn't changed unless this is in the latest snapshot. You can't hit them with an arrow so your logic is flawed about them being sniper bait.

Let’s play good guys against bad guys… Yes. Let’s play that. Are you ready? You’re the bad guy. And when you’re bad, you just run. That’s fine right? Well… Shall we play?
I've never been able to, admittedly I haven't tried in awhile. They would teleport as soon as I shot . Perhaps I was just unlucky. Sorry for spreading mis-information if so.
It's impossible to hit an enderman by firing an arrow at it because they teleport before it hits them. But if your bow is enchanted with Flame, then it will catch on fire.
Enderman cannot be killed by arrows because they teleport just before it hits them. If you did kill one, then you probably didn't see it correctly. It could have been the rain because water hurts them...
They used to be kill-able with arrows back in 1.8, when they were very weak. 1.0 is when they got the ability to dodge arrows.
To be realistic, they don't actually dodge it. They are still hit by the arrow, but triggers them to teleport instead of taking damage, making it look like they dodged it. That's why you don't get the arrow back, because it technically hits them.
Now that I remember, 1.0 made Endermen one of the most dangerous mobs to fight. They have the most health in the overworld, with 20 hearts (6 diamond sword hits), and deal 5 hearts of damage to you on hard mode.
Anyway, my point was that BEFORE the teleportation was implemented, they were essentially harmless because of their immobility. The way they are now, however, the staredown mechanic could be re-added without them being too vulnerable from it.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Really? I've sniped an Enderman with an arrow.
EDIT: Must've been back in Beta 1.8.

I am ninja'd far too often.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
Irony in the first degree.
