i have doors and blocks underneath my town 1 block down so i think thay are trying to all enter the same home
thay also seem to be atracted to moving water too my town is Avalon on incraftion.com if you want to look at it
I think it has to do with the 'social' coding. They like to be together. Also they tend to gravitate toward the lower terrain in the village it seems to me.
One thing that people have tried and seems like it may some success is to trap some villagers behind counters in key buildings throughout the town. This encourages the other villagers to 'socialize' with the trapped villagers helping to encourage the population to be a little more dispersed.
Mine do that too. I have 8 smaller houses for them, but they all want to squeeze into 3-4. It's hilarious when they try to come out in the morning, because they all keep opening & closing the door at the same time.

I blame Minecraft for the letters on my W, A, S, & D keys being completely gone.
The one thing I've noticed is that if it's raining, the stupid villagers will head west and stuff themselves into one house... This was on SMP though and I haven't checked on SSP or if they eventually "fix" themselves on SMP. Funny thing is that this village is in a desert where it doesn't rain and yet if it's raining in the world they'll do it.

They Huddle in one house because its coded in their AI. They hide in houses at night to hide from zombies because in 1.2 zombies attack NPC villagers. Jeb made it so that there would be a little mini-game you could play by defending the villagers with iron golem and swords.
They huddle like that so that when zombies break in, there is a better chance that the one in the back will be able to get out while their family is getting killed.

They all huddle because it is in their coding to breed and they must be together to breed. Why they all choose the smallest, most uncomfortable house, we will never know.
One day I went in my village to count how large the towns population was. There were about 6 of them inside the library. When i entered one went behind me and blocked the door so that I couldnt get out. They tried mugging me. I would of just punched a hole through the wall or killed the one blocking the door but I was too lazy.

I have a pretty big town and it's populated with testificates. For some reason, most of them leave the part of town with houses and all go to the west side of town where there is a fenced in area for farm animals and they just walk around and then at night all crowd into the same building.

By any chance is that part of the town lower? Another behavior I noticed is that during the day they like to have room to wander out a ways from town. If you try to constrain them too close to the houses, they will go to the place that allows them to get farther away, like your animal pen area there.
