I have different artificial biomes set up for every area of my village, one of which is all swamp trees with vines, & mushrooms both normal & giant. I just tried expanding the area, but now it won't let me place mushrooms. It says on the wiki tht they have to be a low light level, but then how the hell am I supposed to make giant ones? For some reason it lets me put them in the upstairs of my house, which is high up, surrounded by glass, with a glowstone ceiling. Translation- really freakin bright. It also doesn't let me place new mushrooms under the same trees & giant shrooms that there are other ones already growing at, which wouldn't be there anymore if the light level was too high, right? The biome I'm adding to was built at least 2 updates ago, if you're wondering how I got them all there.
If you can help clarify any of this, please do. I'm extremely frustrated at this point.
Mushrooms have issues due to a lighting bug (I think).
A person posted a potential solution that I keep forgetting to test, but I'll pass it on to you. He said to make a 3X3 plus sign shaped hole. Above that hole make a roof high enough for the large mushroom growth (likely to bring light levels down). Plant your mushroom in the middle of the hole and it should stay and bonemeal into a large mushroom. The plus shaped hole apparently makes the light update properly.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
