I am in need of sticky pistons for some stuff I'm working on in my world. I've looked for some slimes (and yes my gamemode isn't on peaceful, so I know they should spawn) but I really can't find any. Then I thought, well what if I go to the bottom of the world (the bottom 16 layers) and cleared out a huge area. I know that the chunk that slimes spawn on is randomized, but would that make them spawn? Or, allow them to spawn, persay. Just wondering. If you can leave me any tips for slime finding that would be great :]
Update: Okay so after reading several posts, I'm gathering that there is no real shortcut to finding slimes, which is actually more or less what I was looking for. If you have one, please tell me :l
Update Update:
Tell me if I am doing anything wrong...
Here is the room I cleared out:
Here is the graph. I am mining in (x)-128 through -112 and (z)240 through 256:
So long as you cleared a slime chunk and met the spawn requirements, that would work. My advice is to explore all the caves you find since they go through many chunks. That's how I've always found slimes.

Well that is kind of what I was wondering. Does the player actually have to find a slime chunk, or can they clear out an area and make it so slimes can spawn.
Actually, if I am not wrong, the smallest slimes still spawn in peaceful?
Anyway, this is Minecraft, the world where it is funnier to explore if you can than KNOWING that you can.
They won't spawn in peaceful anymore..They fixed that. Yeah. I mean I'm not OBJECTED to hunting slimes. It's fun either way! I just wanted some sticky pistons and to save time.
Um . .I'm not sure who told you slime chunks are randomized, but that's not tue. If you find an area of your world that spawns slimes - it will ALWAYS spawn slimes. There are many programs that help you find slimes - just google "Slime finder" - should be the first option. And "AMIDST" will help too I believe. Good luck finding slimes.. .. . I found my slime chucnks by accident, but with luck and a lot of exploration I'm sure you'll find some too
Nope - Slimes will not spawn in peaceful
Randomized, predetermined, same stuff. Regardless, I just wanted to know if you could make slimes spawn. That's all. And again, I am not objected to finding slimes. It's rather fun! I just wanted to save a bit of time.
Just keep searching .. I stumbled upon a slime chunk when i went spelunking..... and to be honest .. they seem to spawn all over my underground base [ the parts I haven't half-slabed that is] so ... keep looking
Okay I guess. How do you suggest I go about starting? I havn't really been specifically searching for slimes. More or less just looking in deep caves as I was mining redstone and such. Should I just dig down to bedrock and then go in all different directions?
go to http://mcslimes.appspot.com/ and either upload your save file, or enter your seed number - enter a range of cords where you want it to look - and it will show you which chunks are slime chunks... it's best if you can find 2-3 chunks touching each other.
once you have determined where you want to set up your slime farm, you need to go and mine out a 16X16X 3 (min) area in each sime chunk, slimes only spawn y<40 so make sure you are below that - you can dig out 2-3 level's to increase your chances -- at that point, you need to then start lighting up the caves in the area - the less space you allow other mobs to spawn, the better chances that slimes will spawn.

When I uploaded it, the graph stayed blank. Does that mean I have to go generate more chunks (walk around alot)
It can be frustrating as several bad words, but unless you want to cheat somehow, the only thing to do is exploring until you find a slime. Then you big out a big room at this point and hope it has not moved far away from its original spawn. I usually clear out a couple of 15x15 chambers (walls along chunk borders) and wait to see exactly what room slimes spawn into before I make a several layer lit spawn chamber, and go on lighting up the caves I can access in the area.
Last resort: Digging out around 10 chunck-size chambers should net you a fair chance that one of them is a slime chunck
-Facepalm- I wish there was a way to craft slimeballs :l So basically what I'm gathering from all of this is that there is no shortcut to finding slimes (except that slimefinder thing, which appeared blank for me when the graph loaded). I guess I'll start digging now?
Randomly appearing and predetermined spawning are not 'the same stuff'. They only spawn in specific chunks (which can be found using a slime chunk finder based on your map seed). You can force them to spawn in their predetermined chunks by quickly switching to peaceful and back, thus resetting all hostile spawns and giving you the chance of forcing some slime spawns.
Edit- If the graph stayed blank then expand your search params (they only spawn in 1 out of 10).

When I said "the same stuff" I just meant "okay" and wanted to move on. And besides, I initially thought that the worldrandomly selects chunks that slimes will spawn on. But now I know that they spawn on predetermined or specific chunks :l

make the range of chunks you want it to check larger - get your x,z cords from where you are in your world and then do your range 100 blocks in all directions from that - should have plenty.

Yeah I did a range of 100 and got about thirteen. Then did 50 and got three. So now what? I just go to those chunks and dig down to <40?
Yup yup. 16 square and 3 high with multiple floors for sure. Last time I went down to the mines adjacent to a single slime chunk with 4 floors, I got 156 slime balls and progressed from level 27 to level 33- and I just wanted to get some diamonds....

Okay...So I made 4 block wide spiral staircase down to y:36. Do I start building here? Or should I go to bedrock?

make it at 12.6, anything under Y:40 is good, that way you can make multiple floors, and use this site to find what chunks spawn slimes =) http://mcslimes.appspot.com/

you can start there, it'll leave you room to do several floors in the same chunk - remember to light up all the surrounding caves to increase their spawn rate - slimes can spawn at any light so keep it well lit as well - light the spawn rooms from the roof, because they can't spawn on floors with torch's on them.
Update: Okay I'm in a chunk that MC slimes says will spawn slimes. I dug a 4 wide spiral staircase down into a cave (of course, in the chunk). But I can't find any slimes. I'm in this cave. I've killed a skelly and have harvested 6 diamond and some redstone...Still no slimes :l
mobs spawn as far away as 144 blocks away from you, slimes have a really small chance of spawning compared to other mobs - the only way to force them is to light up all the caves in that 144x144 area so other mobs can't be spawned... as you get caves lit up, keep checking your trap and they'll slowly start spawning.
also too, slimes will not spawn closer then 24 blocks from you - so make sure to stand 24+ blocks away from your trap when you are waiting for them to spawn.
Okay so I'm in the possess of mining out the chunk (one floor, of course). My pick broke so I'm back at my house making new ones. I haven't encountered a slime, but I trust they will spawn soon enough.
