I have been on many servers that claim they have X-ray detection in them. Although I don't see how they would detect that you modified your client. And usually once I join the server People are still complaining about xray on an "xray free" server. I think it's a myth to deter anyone from using it.
its impossible to detect somebody with x-ray unless they confess or they find a well hidden chest or storage area, though that could be purely coincidental.
it is most likely an anti-xray plugin (hides unexposed ores)
well, that hides ores, but on SMP, i notice that people mostly use x-ray to find hidden chests, furnaces and hidden bases. That can be a big pain to hide because they will always cheat to steal people's diamonds and iron instead of just using their damn x-ray to mine their own or just not use it at all.

depends on the plugin. There is one (rawcritics) that can show all blocks below 60 (i think) as iron ore and everything below 20 (i think) as diamond ore so that takes care of hidden bases/chests. Its kinda buggy though...
I hope they improve on that plug-in because the xray vison is what keeps me from even giving the SMP servers a fair shake. I don't mind the idea of having to fight off players because the challenge of working hidden seems fun. However, xray negates that (well, other than finding a way to hide it behind lava) challenge and makes the whole idea seem fruitless.

Plenty of plugins allow protection from people who chose to cheat. LWC locks chests and doors,
I don't know if it is a plugin or not, but Mods can also detect when somebody mines diamonds, at least on the server i play on.
I was working on one of my projects last night while most of the rest of the server were playing on a new temporary sky world and hunting for diamonds on it.
I had hit diamonds in the room I was digging out and all of a sudden one of the mods appeared and didn't vanish quick enough for me not to see him.
I asked him what was up and he told me he saw I struck diamonds and wondered where I had found them at. He assumed I was with the rest of the server playing on the temporary world.
So I assume one of the plugins, such as worldguard or some such allows them to see when rare items are mined.
With something like this. If they keep track of how many times and how often a player mines diamonds, they can just spy them and see what they are doing.
It is fairly obvious when somebody is using x-ray packs, they don't do branch mining or anything else that normal miners do. So it would be very easy to tell when somebody has one and is using it since all of their digging leads straight to diamonds.
Now this would only work on mining ores and not stealing from chests. But if the server doesn't have chest protections then they don't really care about stealing and worrying about x-ray packs is pointless and a waste of time.
Trying to get games written for windows to work on a Linux machine is like trying to put a diaper on an incontinent buffalo. Sure, you might get it all done, but you'll certainly be left with a huge mess, and it's very time consuming.
Perhaps if you are a good developer you could add some code that sends some information to the server, and you could make a plugin for bukkit that'd allow you to read incoming information and if the data received from the client (player) matches the x-ray information, it'd kick you?

yeah, there is a bukkit plugin that does that (notifies staff when someone gets diamond). On my server, if someone has an oddly high number of diamonds I turn on vanish and just watch them mine. Its pretty easy to spot who is xraying and who is just lucky
I use CJB's mods. Beautiful XRay stuff included in with wonderful minimap and an item-giver. Nice thing about it is ... the server administrator can tell CJB's to NOT FUNCTION on the client side by a server side setting.
I was just banned on a server for using xray, well i didnt use it i flashed it on and off right as i joined, the server the server had "xray detection" in the plugins list. they have no other way of telling i had it because i didnt even really use it. I fully belive that there server had xray detection yet i have no clue how and want to know how it works, if anyone knows post here :wink.gif:
Any and all anti-xray plugins are based off of the detection of the popular mod "XRay". Anyone with some simple java knowledge could code around that. There is currently no plugin that can detect xray texture packs, so unless you have a plugin that logs when something is mined or something to spot xrayers, xray texture packs are invincible.
Also, the "Anti Xray" plugin has been known to delete all of the ores in a given world.
Users lack the mental capacity to have intelligent discussion, and mods lack the mental capacity to make intellegent decisions... I give up trying to share my intelligence with the world.

I think there are few bukkit plugins for locking chests, and few server mods. Plus on many servers there are command for privatizing territory. So I think you should use this options :Diamond:))
Yes there are still servers with no plugins or mods, but many of them have a lot of griefers there, and they will find you before you will make a base(

I saw a video on You Tube about this. Anti X-ray works like this. There are few hidden diamond ores or some good stuff which is hard to find with out x-ray, so when player finds them server think that he is cheating, and players is kicked off the server. I think this is stupid, but there are not so many ways how to find cheaters(
Interesting. I was just on a server and all three owners were bragging about how they can block xrayer's, and I really wish I could figure out a way around with having to waste my alt for testing. Does the Nodus Client get detected?

I've used X-ray on a PvP server and guess what.
They checked the log, and I kept on pressing X on and off. They assumed I was X-raying. (Be careful when X-raying, boys.)

I suspected as much. But I also heard that this pluging is very buggy and usually causes a lot more lag.

Then they would just change the coding.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it.
