From the looks of it, it takes more time than just mining by hand.

But there is still appeal in no pickaxe usage, no destroying landscape, no need for lighting, and AFK collection, among other things.

I found out how to add bigger cobble production:
Its same as this, but 2 cobble generators, doing the same thing. the cobble generated (2x more than before) is pushed by a water current.

You're a bit late.
This is nothing new.
I have connected 4 of them.
This is a screenshot from my test world.
In my real world I'm planning to make a 6x6 (36 total, currently I have the same as in my test world, but just better looking and more compact) and connect them to allocators which will move them into chests.

Although I don't have a need for so much cobblestone, it looks epic. ^^

Obviously I am exagerating, but you get my point. You mayaswell just hack infinite cobble into your inventory if you're doing this.

Next we'll have a pickaxe that can mine obsidian in 2 seconds, never gets damaged, heals you with every use and keeps smoothstone smooth when mining it. If you use diamond pickaxes you may as well just hack infinite everything into your inventory.

Obviously, I'm exaggerating.

how, exactly? the new pistons don't crush blocks.

it sucs that the vanilla pistons don't do this but I hope in the future Notch will make it so that way people will be able to make massive factories which would be soo awesome I'd be as giddy as a girl in a male model shop.

This does not work with the official pistons.
I think that it originally was a bug with the mod.
