So, what is your best idea for a griefer trap? I just thought of it cuz I was messing around with dispensers and spawn eggs and suddenly had a good idea...
You can't see it, but they are all connected to a dispenser with cave spider spawner eggs, 512 of them. Every time you walk over a pressure plate, it spawns one. I figure whoever gets caught in that is pretty much screwed. Obviously, only an option for server ops, but still.
That has a big flaw in it. What if the griefer has alot of armour, food and swords? He can just kill them and head to the chest! Try using pistons to crush the person.

If he was good enough to do that, why would he need to grief? Also, remember that every time anything hits a plate, a new one spawns. Not that pistons don't sound like a good idea. How would I go about doing that?

Pretty obvious. Make a pressure plate system that uses a delay for a few ticks then causing 3 - 4 sections of pistons to extend in the assumed place where the player would be. The reason 3 - 4 (sticky pistons) is required is so that you can assume whether they pause for a second, whether they run, or if they just walk, death is assured.
So what I think is a good idea which I tried myself on a multiplayer server was set up an obvious entry to my house when it was clearly fake, and put a presure plate right next to the door and some tnt under it. If anyone comes in they will get blown to smitherines. Then when you come on you will know someone tried entering your house. Just a little tnt to clean up. Easy and no redstone needed.

I found diamonds. Cool you found a tree. Nice Bro. >.>

Landmines. Yes. I'm looking for something a little more reuseable and cheap, since I use most of my gunpowder to make splash potions.
Floating diamond block, griefer goes to stand underneath it, pressure plate activates pistons that lift up, vulnerable to everything the player wants to do to him/her/it.
Griefer trap... Dispensers firing 2 splash potions of Harming II. Potions ignore armor if I remember correctly. Should kill any trespasser.
I don't see anything about them ignoring armor on the wiki...although you might be right. But it makes sense that Protection enchanted armor might protect you from it.

True... I was checking the wiki as well to double check it.
But better safe than sorry, launch 6 splash potions to be on the safe side.
Griefers usually have chests full of armour so I wouldn't do much. Rather put a lever on the wall with a sign saying "Chest room" above it, but connect the lever to a lava pitfall trap. Your problem is solved.
I'm assuming griefers with an INT above -1.

Sadly, I know a few people that would work on. XD
With clever wiring, you could have that switch open to a storage room as well. Just be sure to press a button before flipping the lever.
Block updates. Some recent update made redstone objects triggerable by let's say redstone ore being walked over, things being burned in a furnace, chaning dirt in farmland and stuff like that. It's what you'd least expect, being trapped/dropped/killed while trying to steal coal from a furnace or something. Don't know if that'd actually work. And yes, I live in your basement.
That does sound humorous, but I don't know if its true (The blockupdates triggering redstone).
By the way, I still need trap ideas, so they would be greatly appreciated.
Only thing to keep griefers out is to makean obsidion room and cover it with lava when you leave. Put all your valubles in there.I usally make a fake house with tnt under it. It's so funny when it works.

I just tested this and splash potions of harming 2 do ignore armor but only do 3.5 hearts of damage IF the player is in the middle of the blast. It would then take 3 direct hits to kill a player, even in diamond armor.

That makes connecting the redstone to it a lot more space consuming, though, since Vertical doesn't work with servers.

"Clever" is somewhere between "Landmine" and "Basic Computer" levels of difficulty, right?

Griefing is mindless destruction. It doesn't benefit the griefer in any way, you don't "need" to do it at all. Some people just think it's funny.
