Probably didn't word that right, but, does ore like iron, gold and diamond ever just generate more of itself somewhere in the world? Or is it in finite supply?
As you explore new areas of the world and more terrain is generated more ores will generate with the new terrain. However ores will not "respawn" in already generated terrain.
So the ore supply is finite, however you are not about to run out any time soon.

That's what I was worried about. You read my mind.
if you reach the boundries of a map (farlands) you've probably passed over 4.5 million diamonds. Thats if you started at 0.0 and went in a straight line. So they don't really need to be infinite.

Wow. I guess I'm just worrying without reason, then. Thanks for the reassurance. I have a bad habit of worrying about everything, whether in games or real life.
Yep, say you spawn a chuck the excavate it entirely of its ores. No ores anymore in that chunk, although other chunks have ores and there are a LOT of chucks in a world. So unless you plan on staying in one chuck, you aren't going to have a problem.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but all the letters are arranged alphabetically, as they should be. If you want me to respond, quote my post.

A CHUNK(not chuck), can not be ENTIRELY composed of ore. Unless you were implying the chunk had a large amount of ores, yes, that can happen quite often. A chunk usually contains about a stack of coal or so. Maybe 10-30 iron ore. 0-20 gold ore. 0-10 diamonds. Per chunk. Assuming that every layer there is at least 10 veins of iron and a few large veins of coal, and small veins for gold and diamond. I have not mentioned redstone because that stuff is everywhere around gold-diamond level. I'm serious. I can't go 10 blocks without running into redstone -.-
I should mention, a chunk is 16x16 and can be easily outlined by rei's minimap mod. It also highlights slime chunks to. The Almighty Minimap

The only way it could officially appear to do that is around 1.8 when Endermen could move any block in the game. They could potentially move ores from somewhere else to where you just mined them even though getting it exactly there was highly unlikely. As of right now though it's not possible at all even by that method.
Just to clarify, ores are finite, not infinite. Unless you have a godly computer and some sort of blessed version of Minecraft that will not overwrite chunks, the Farlands would be explorable. However, I'm not entirely sure if there is ore in the Farlands. If there is, then there could be a infinite supply, or finite supply when your computer explodes.

It's funny, I noticed I put "chuck" and put in an "n" but I misspelled it so I used spell check and apparently made it back to "chuck"!!! To my defense, the other time I put "chunk" :tongue.gif: . And by "excavated entirely of its ores" I was implying that you removed the existing ores from that chunk, no matter how many there are (a few or a mass load). And with the redstone thing, I have that problem to :smile.gif: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The minecraft world is not infinite- it is, however, too large to be fully mined out. I read somewhere that the area of the MC world is 8x the size of the planet Earth.
So the ore supply is finite, however you are not about to run out any time soon.
Do you happen to know the name of that mod?

Currently working on random projects. Have any coding problems? Feel free to PM!
I didn't know that the world was infinite. It just... Keeps going in all directions? Indefinitely?
Thanks.

PSSH you can't do it

I know Gold is renewable, you can kill zombie pigmen.
True survival server, and fun!
Renewable, I suppose is what I mean.
Nope, the world has a limit. It would take about 160% of your life to explore every chunk though.
