I just had an idea for a possibly unique challenge (I hope)
You have to build a surface house from under ground!
You can play on any difficulty except creative, since this is mainly a building challenge.
Start a new world, or store all your items and move far away from your base if you want to keep your world.
You must start with nothing, and you have one minecraft day to gather anything on the surface that you want.
When or before night comes, you must get underground and block yourself off from the surface. You cannot return to the surface after this. You cannot place blocks on the surface except for one crafting table on the day when you are gathering materials.
You can make anything you want or mine underground with the stuff you brought in. Nether portal is allowed to be built under ground.
If you find a cave leading to the surface, you are only allowed to go to the threshold - you cannot actually go outside, not even a part of your body. You cannot place blocks on the surface through the opening. You are allowed to lead mobs or animals through the opening, however.
The goal is to build a house on the surface from under the ground. It must be at least 7x7 wide and 4 high, but can be bigger. It must have a ceiling and a floor with space in between - multiple floors are allowed if you can manage, but you CANNOT surface to place any blocks.
You must be totally under ground and blocked off from the sky by at least one layer of blocks above you - the challenge is to build the house through this layer. Using a cave opening is not allowed.
Not super hard but just a bit of a puzzle to do. Once you have the house complete you can go up inside it and be on the surface again.
One easy way to do it is to build the house underground (but with dirt where the air belongs), then push it up with pistons. You could do it with a single piston and a lever, but it's faster with a redstone clock and a couple of pistons.
Once you've pushed the house through the ground, you need to place stairs up from the basement, then dig out the dirt, then add furniture. The last step is to go up on the roof and clear off the dirt, unless you like having a grass roof. Make sure to grab sand on the first day, so you can have windows.

It's a pretty cool exercise.
Yup that's one way. There's another way that doesn't involve clearing dirt and leaves the space before you even go up, without exposing yourself to the surface either, but I'll leave that up to people to figure out.
Who needs pistons or hard work? :tongue.gif: Be lazy...
Step one: Spawn in desert.
Step two: Create TNT.
Step three: Create beautiful sandstone house of awesomeness complete with everything you could ever imagine.
Step four: TNT a giant crater so that your paradise rests in the crater :tongue.gif:
Yeah, ez challenge. Tricky to start, though. I completed it in under 2 hrs while at work. Comp sux so I had to be on ez and don't have the opportunity to record a video or screenshot (network restrictions). What I did was grabbed wood on the surface (18) and headed below. Was on peaceful because the comp I can use at work lags bad enough without mobs added in. Didn't use torches and just explored a cave till I hit redstone. Set up a small camp and made piston. Then went back to the sub surface layer and built my house. Used the piston to push each column up until the house was above ground. Hollowed it out inside, placed a door, opened it, and walked out a free man.

If you think the title and OP tells you everything you want to know about a thread, don't reply. If you want to actually read the thread and post an intelligent reply, you're welcome to it.

I don't know yet, but I'm about to do it myself pretty soon. :cool.gif:
If you can do it with your character below level 64 the whole time, sure, I guess. :laugh.gif:
