Honestley the way water and fire works in minecraft it would be better to block the fire or punch it as water can go crazy i figure its probably reflex but what the heck guys water can just make it worse as it will push you from the fire so you cant put it out anyone else agree?
If the water isn't anywhere near anything you care about, then it can be good. Just set it down and pick it up in about a half of a second, and it will disappear soon.
Water's also useful if there's a lot of fire, and it has other uses.
-Mob farms
-boat systems
-Regular farms
-Making obsidian
-Cobblestone generator
-Probably forgetting quite a few
LoL yeah any way my point was that with water its un predictable and when theres only small fires people still use water Just like with "Keep A Bucket Of water when near lava"
well 50% chance its going to push you in then obsidian it
if its a huge fire water all the way!

Even if it has a lower chance of putting it out, there's still a higher chance water spreading 8 in each direction will put out fire faster then punching it. Also, since I have a space bar and a "w", I never get pushed into lava by water.
You could use water, but the problem is that a floor that is on fire is hardly ever flat, so the water wouldn't spread out, it would just flow to the holes.

Nope.

If you have a large floor, and it's engulfed in flames, punching it out before it spreads is impossible.
I didn't know Minecraft was so educational.
Why I do use some form of water methods to control fire, but mostly it depends how the fire breakout is that will determine control method.

If the fire gets out of hand how ever.. is your friend.
