this is a topic which will help you build some small and big stuff. so lets cut to the chase.
fireplace
1: make a hole 3 blocks high and three blocks tall into your wall. 2: place netherrack in the middle of it and light it on fire. 3: add bricks to the wall only keeping space for the flames. 4: add a 2 high line to the middle at the back to make it represent a chimney. 5: in front of the netherrack and two the left and right of it put bricks. 6: put iron bars on the front 3 bricks. 7: it should look like this. (this was on a smp server)
lamps
(really simple) 1: put a fence down. 2: put glowstone on top of it. 3: done
lamps alternative
1: place a fence down
2: place a torch on top of the fence
3: done
stripper poles :smile.gif:
1:make a 3x3 area made of wooden slabs keeping the middle open.
2:put a fence in the middle reaching the roof.
3:done
chandeliers
1:place a fence on the roof.
2:place 1 glowstone below it
3: place glowstone to the sides of it
4: done
chandelier alternative
1: place a decoritive block 1 block away from the ceiling
2:surround it with torches
3:place a fence between that and the ceiling
4: done
chandelier alternate...again
1: put 2 fences on the ceiling
2: put a fence on either side of it
3: put a torch on each fence to the side
4: done
walls
1: build cobblestone 5 high and connect them.
2:put stone slabs on top of the cobblestone
3: at the corners put 1 more stone slab there and place a torch there. (or place netherrack there and set it on fire)
4:done
fountains
1:build a 3x3 square
2:put 1 block in the middle
3;stack the block in the middle about 4 high
4: put water on top of the stacked middle block
5 done
fountain alternate
1:build a 3x3 square
2:put 1 block in the middle
3;stack the block in the middle about 4 high
4: put water on top of the stacked middle block
5: cut the corners to make it more circular
6: done
small castles
1: build a cube.
2:put a 3x3 platform connected to the corners of your castle and make it 6 blocks high.
3: at the corner of those towers put 1 block in.
4: put torches on those corners
5: done
light poles
1: stack 5 fences on top of each other
2:on the top side of it put 2 fences hanging off
3: put glowstone under the last fence on the side
4: done
hot tub
1:make a 4x4 area
2: place wood or stone around the edges
3:dig down 3 in the 3x3 area inside it
4: place lava there
5: cover that with glass
6:put water on the glass
7: done
pool
1:make a area for your pool thats a rectangle or a square.
2: make it 3 blocks or higher.
3:make layers so its 1 block away from the edge.(thats hard to explain)
4: fill it with water
5: destroy only the TOP part of the layer
6:destroy the rest of the layer
7: done
cobblestone generator
1: dig a straight line for 5 blocks
2: at the third block dig 1 more down
3:place water at one end but make sure to place it first
4: place lava at the other end
5: done
redstone section:
drawbridge
1: dig a rectangle 9 blocks in length and 3-4 blocks deep.
2:put redstone on the sides and have it connect with a lever
3:place trapdoors on the sides
4: place lava at the bottom of the hold
done
drawbridge better (a.k.a more materials)
1: dig a hole at least 2 blocks deep
2: go 1 up and dig a hole 3 wide
3: place sticky pistons the direction of the 2 block deep hole
4: place redstone at the same height next to each piston and connect them to a lever
5: go 1 block away from the pistons and place any block u like
6: place lava under those blocks
7: done

small,efficient houses.
here is a link to a great thread about this here
how to make houses look good:
never use only 1 or 2 building materials. that would make it look too plain. even simple 1 block glass windows could make a house look less plain. here is a example of what i mean. it took 3 different blocks.
that is a shop i created on a server. using glass i made it look sweet by just making it see through. easy as that

if you want to contact me i will probably be on this server here is the link to the server (my in game name is montar25)
Well, that was interesting. I was doing Minevillage, the first entry, I attempted to do a chimney with Flint and Steel inside, but it ruins everything! So, I clean the house.
Fences 4-5 high, 1 fence off the top, glowstone one the bottom of the single post. Place next to pathways for streetlamps.
You can even move the glowstone 1 farther away for an even better look
Chandelier alternative: Put a decorative block (gold, iron, various wool colors) 1 block away from the ceiling and surround with torches. Place fence between block and ceiling.
Wall alternative. Stagger 1 half block and 3 to make castle-style walls that are still mob-proof (except spiders who can climb it).

I would make a nether-proof house. ie:obsidian walls and moat for ghasts.
A nether-proof house is anything made out of cobblestone or higher.
Since ghasts (and all nether denizens) are immune to fire/lava, not sure what the moat would be for. Don't think water hurts them either, so using silk touch to move ice to the nether would be useless. Plus, the biggest flaw: ghasts can fly over the moat.
Nice visual idea, though. Just wish obsidian wasn't so dark.

No offence or anything but I kind of already knew most of it so even if you didn't say they were unique or anything, they must have been unique enough for you to post it so.
ya this is kinda for people who dont know the basics of building...
You can cut the corners on the fountains to make them look more circular.
Also to make a strong castle you can make it 3 blocks thick where the middle layer is bedrock and the outside is Stone Brick to make it look more castle like. Also if you really hate spiders you can add a lip to defend against them.
Another tip is to put glowstone behind paintings so they appear as best as possible.
Also you can put a fence and then wooden planks on top and then signs on the side to make a street sign to tell people the streets on servers.
You can also make some nice Docks with wooden slabs, Glowstone, Brown Wool and Trapdoors.
Here's a diagram

The wool is to stop boats coming in to fast. The Wool is at water level while the rest is just above the water so that the bottom face is touching the water almost.

Heres a couple to add : Half blocks and their full block counterparts with fences on top make great supports or poles
When underground, Adding wood with log edging and stonebrick floors IMO looks really nice
Stairs Make Great roof Siding
Bricks and sandstone IMO look well together
Using pistons makes great looking retractable tables
Enjoy!

thanks :smile.gif: +1
