HOW DID YOU GET CAKE ON SUPERFLAT AND IRON ARMOR YOUR CHEETING BRO
Zombies have iron as a rare drop. Get a decent mob farm and you can rake it in. From there, the only other difficult ingredient for cake is sugar, which drops from witches.
Creeper, that is why he builds mob farms. Spawn rates on superflat are 2x normal as well. Easy to get a steady stream of zombies and decent iron ingot drops.

HOW DID YOU GET CAKE ON SUPERFLAT AND IRON ARMOR YOUR CHEETING BRO
Iron??? Better recognize.
Weirdly armor is almost entirely unnecessary to craft here. Mob's drop it readily enough. Iron and Diamond are more rare, but gold and leather are plentiful. I've got a pretty good outfit and backup outfit going at this point.
Everything you see is was achieved though either via original resources found in a bonus chest or from mob drops. Takes time, but well worth it.

Yeah, it did take awhile to obtain everything for cake. On this world it is one of the more awesome blocks available. Can function as slab, can trick mob's like trapdoors do, can be eaten to change its horizontal dimensions. Awesome block.
I'll be honest Endy I've never used height restrictions to sort mobs by spawning. It is an interesting concept! Is this just something to do or does it have a purpose? I tend to be more of the kind of guy that lets everything spawn, kills it, then sorts the products out later
Bit of both :}
String is another handy resource to have, but Spiders in the main farm decreased the spawning of Zombies. They are also a bit trickier to kill and I never did find a good way to deal with item sorting.
I do think it is just plain cool to have a farm that can spawn specific mobs. Mob Spawner, Supeflat-style.
Edit: Ooh, did time travel. Freaky
Feel like I'm traveling through time digging out the route for the transit system.
Right now under the Frosted Ice Tunnel, just past the remnants of the Silence is Golden project. Planning to beautify things as I go. Always thought it had a cool look to it, nice to be working with it once more.
Can see some of the 'cells' I've finished up here. They'll randomly enter as the water current turns directions. Once a cell is full no more creepers can enter in. Could be improved, but it works
I need to expand it some more but I like how it is working already. Loosely based the design off of images from the Codex Seraphinianus:
Bone Spike
With a sad heart I decided it was time to remove the original item frame warehouse. Wanted something suitably epic to replace it with.
I've made homes in the Ice Plains Spike Biome before and this quasi-structure has always stood out. Totally natural but converted it makes a great observation tower. Wanted to recapture that feeling.
Very cool to watch him take a familiar structure or portal and epicly remake it.
Update Thoughts
Liking the new blocks, just wish they would have been available to me here. Kind of guessed sand was in the crafting recipe though, so not totally surprised. New Palette looks good though. I'm thinking yellow and orange are going to make a comeback.
Still hopeful they plan to add more stuff, mob's dropping iron ingots as well as Iron bars would be a fav. More blocks with novel properties like Concrete Powder would be cool as well.
Very cool thing. Able to hold any number of mobs safely while I fish.
Here is a view with the slime blocks removed:
Mobs fall down and push one another into the two ladder areas. 2:24 in Pi's video explains how the ladders help very nicely:
Stems from Goohz's work with CBuds, which are also very cool. Kind of funny. I had noticed this behavior before but never thought to make a switch out of it. Great stuff.
Was able to go all out in the design here. Far enough away from my main base that I could try a number of different setups safely. Was smart this time and added the lighting ahead of time so the farm can be easily turned off; in the event it is spewing forth mobs like a portal to Hel Nether.
Iron Bars serve to(mostly) allow items through while blocking the mobs. Cauldrons are used to limit the number of blocks the iron bars can connect with.
Aerial View of Fish Camp
Basically a nice location far away from the main base I can head out to, do my fishing and knock out some mobs.
Future Stuff
Presently thinking I really need to build additional sheep pens. Took a ridiculous amount of time to obtain all that wool.
I've also been looking at making a higher output egg farm for easier cake production. Found that when standing on or walking over a cake block tall enough mobs can be picked up by an overhead water current. Another way to seperate out creepers would be awesome.
What I've been calling the "Merged Minecarts of Doom", also look promising as far as increasing the drop rates. Place enough down on a single track and they all merge and any mob that your creation picks up or runs into suffers damage. Pretty fun just to play around, but could serve as the superflat equivalent of magma blocks to kill mobs without losing their items.
Got my fingers crossed for a snapshot this week. Sounds like a fair bit of interesting stuff is in the works.
I need to expand it some more but I like how it is working already. Loosely based the design off of images from the Codex Seraphinianus:
Some pretty trippin imagery in that book.
I'm not sure I follow your brief discussion about the ladders and iron bars at the collection area under the orange. I'll watch the videos later and perhaps those will shed some light.

First one mentions the trick with ladders(vines would work too) at about 2:24.
Iron bars are only there to allow any drops fall through into a collection stream. Weird but it works.
To hoe the ground, your only option is an iron hoe from the rare zombie iron ingot drop and sticks from witches.
Yes, Superflat tech is super tedious lol

c) Use starting wood blocks to craft a wooden hoe because you are desperate for food :{
Was burning up a ton of energy early on though. Running around at dawn collecting mob drops and mining during the night. Was a fun time and dry farming worked surprisingly well, but would have loved it if I could have used the wood more productively.
Mwahaha!
I think the two lightning based blocks take the cake in terms of rarity. Mob heads and Gold blocks.
Not a block, but End Crystals are my personal favorite trophy item though. Obtained them from back when Skeleton Horses still dropped them. Now they are cool memento. 8)
You could maybe dupe wood, but I suppose that's cheating
only if he used the original bonus chest for a hopper and got lucky enough to get 8 wood to make another chest for hopper 2. It is all luck with the bonus chest and he took the first one he got.
I speculated earlier that you could get farther on this challenge if you kept rerolling till you got 2 apples in the bonus chest then saved them forever till you could cure villagers using witches and gold from lightning-struck pigs. It'd take forever but eventually unlock villagers and still fall within the rules of this challenge.

that's what I was thinking, if only he would've rerolled until he got the perfect chest
I don't think Witches spawned outside their huts when I first started this world. Would definitely do many things differently if I was starting over fresh.
Mob Heads remind me of them. Can serve similarly and have the additional capability to be a different height off the ground if placed against a block. Hoping to find some novel uses for them. First block I or a mob can stand on and be 3/4's the way off the ground here. New options are always great to have on this world.
Future Stuff
Expanding the original Charged Creeper farm. Been seeing good results lately.
Started the Minecart Killing machine. Up to 10. Requiring a ton of iron though. Cake based Creeper separation kind of works, but I'm still getting a few making it through. Hoping more minecarts solves the problem.
Pretty cool. When you come within ~3 blocks of the bat, it flies off an iron pressure plate, activating a clock and causing the door to open.
Bats are unable to hang on transparent blocks, so it'll fly around for a bit and then eventually settle back down over the pressure plate again. You can see the creative mode model below.
In world, everything is contained underground, but you can see part of the clock here.
I've always felt bad for bats. Make the cutest noises but they are not the most loved mob, putting things mildly. Glad to have found a way to use them.
I'd been experimenting with mine carts serving as 'boats' for ages on my test world and while they are really really slow no matter what I do, the concept did work well for a clock.
In other news, I've been working on a new monorail span. Connects form the main area to a tentative Ice Structure(trying it again).
The monorail line itself is finished, but hoping to jazz up the decoration some more.
I got the "mine cart of doom" thing done. Rapidly kills any mob that encounters it, but still seeing creepers sneaking through. At some point I'll probably have another go at modifying the setup.
All for now, going to work on the Ice structure and continue sprucing things up.
Nice progress I've loved reading this thread every once and a while to see the progress on what can be done in Minecraft.

To do this on a super flat world take some serious dedication. *tip of the hat* Good job sir!

Nope, this one's an Orange
Hm... a story about giant bugs and a battle in a "cloud dimension"... hm...
Woo-hoo!
I am looking forward to it. Terracotta and concrete powder got the update off to a great start.
Notes to self:
Bats can function as player detector. Activate weighted pressure plates and can be moved while idle via water currents.
The wait is over
Congratz!
Also you have a lucky number of posts =0
Kill skeleton for bones -> bone-meal grass -> punch the tall grass to get wheat seeds as normal
So basically, I'm stupid.
The harder part is getting the tool.
