When I play single player, I am happy because I know my stuff will not be griefed, that I am the first one to find this cave or walk along this river, I can create uninhibited, and while I may be alone, the world is solely mine to change and edit as I see fit.
That is why I play single player.
There still are creepers and sometimes enderman(They greif your garden).

Same here. I love the "the world is yours to shape" feeling you get in singleplayer. There are no rules, no griefers, no lag, etc. so you can play the way you want.
Normally I'm a singl eplayer person, but recently, my friends and I have found a great server to play on. It's fun to interact with friends by setting up shops (Bukkit) and meet a few new people. The only problems I've had is running into other people's mine.
I have to say, I like both equally. Single Player is nice for building in creative, of doing whatever I want, but when I finish it, its just there, and to me there wasn't really a point to build it. most people seem to hate Mp because of greifers and paying to play, well, there are a lot of servers that are vanilla, or have no protection, but there are a few that do have protection, and your builds are pretty safe. On some well run servers (or ones I consider well run) the admins will have anti-greif plugins that can revert a greifer changes. Some people charge for there servers, (I've never seen any of these, not saying they don't exist though) and not all bukkit servers do that, and these servers probably have the donation to keep away greifers, after all, you already payed for the game, why pay more just to go on and get banned. Plus, there is always the aspect of having other people in Mp, I played Sp a lot before I started playing Mp, and I started to get lonely in Sp.
That is my opinion anyway, some people will just think differently and want to play differently, and nothing anyone can do will change that.
I setup a Multi-Player Survival server up on my network, and I connect to it. My plan was to also have my 6 yr old son play as well, but dealing with the creepers are to much for him. I'm working on that aspect. =)
So my setup does allow me to open my world up to friends who I wish to have visit and see what I've built.
I love playing single player cause everything built, is built by me. Everything explored, is explored by me. Every torch that has been placed.... me. I don't have to be confined to some small protected space to build my house, the entire world is opened to me.
Most importantly, my world can't be taken away from me by some server admin that has lost interest, or decided to reset the server.
I found a great server with adults, the admin is fast and harsh with anyone patient enough to get the permissions needed to grief. He doesn't post messages looking for players, he actually searches for them on the forums himself.
...before this I played single player all the time because I was sick of logging in to everything covered in lava.
I still play Single Player, but that's mostly because the client-server communication delay and how it screws up piston timing.

Do you have a lovely bunch of coconuts? Do you have them all standing in a row? Are there big ones, small ones, some as big as your head?
I think it's honestly because there are no regulations on what I can do and what I can't do, aside from what the engine allows. TNT the entire land? No problem! Pillars of lava? No problem! Giant football stadiums above my cavehouse? No problem! (yes, someone got mad at me because I built a football stadium over a cavehouse, even though I was outside of their cave's area in general). Also, gameplay is smooth and nice, and the only griefers are creepers that I fail at dealing with :tongue.gif:
I do like building with others on occasion, though.
Whenever I find a fabulous server that allows permits on land, one person makes it into the owners land and steals everything of value. Haven't played it since.

I don't like servers getting "reset" or "wiped", and I like to keep my work.
No worries about griefers, or SMP bugs.
The entire world and its resources are mine.
No hackers
But most importantly as stated, everything I do is PERMANENT. No worries about servers shutting down or map resets.
-The combat is awful.Creepers are alot more harder to deal with along with every other hostile mob
-The world is mine.I dont have to worry about hitting someones else mining shaft if i ever do breech mining or worry about limited resources being gathered by someone else such as Diamonds and Iron
-Drama.Lets face it they're will always be some drama when dealing with a group of people that doesn't always have the same ideas and opinion about everything
It has a personal feel to it basically. It's like you manage your own goals and have fun that way. Personally I would like to play with just 1 other person usually but that's about it. I am a multiplayer most of the time because it works faster than single player and playing alone does get boring after you achieve your goals.
the main reason to play Minecraft offline, is that the whole world is solely yours to explore :---)
Quite true.
I'm guessing the appeal depends on the actual player. I like playing SP because I have full control over everything and I can do whatever I want. Likewise, people might like SMP or creative MP more because they can work together with friends and make epic stuff, but I don't have many friends who play Minecraft, and I'm not interested in servers that I don't know the population of.
1) Griefers. There are really three options here:
A) Join a whitelist server, have to wait around for awhile until you're even approved to build things, often can only build in certain areas, or have to join a forum to get access.
B] Join a less regulated server, build in the populous areas, get griefed.
C) Join a less regulated server, hide your stuff far from the spawn, might as well be in single player.
2) Time. Sometimes, I can only play for a few minutes, or I might have to stop suddenly when something comes up. This isn't incompatible with multiplayer, but it does put a strain on cooperative activities. And not stopping when I quit means certain disasters can't wait to be fixed.
3) Difficulty. I like to control it. In single-player, I can decide something like "Now that my house is complete, things are getting a bit easy - time to turn it up to Hard." or "I want to take some exterior screenshots at night, time for Peaceful." On a server, I'm stuck with a fixed setting.
Not too much swearing or racism here, we've got quite the ethnic diversity in our group of friends. I'm not a huge fan of swears either, and neither are my friends, fortunately.
Bare mountains, depressing shades of color on grass, Hundreds of Creeper craters and exposed rock along with the internet's obsession with that hideous block known as cobblestone And burned down remains of homes you occasionally Find just make playing the game hard And depressing.
Not here. We try to keep the landscapes looking as natural as possible, with the exception of the inside of towns.
AND FINALLY.... BUKKIT. I. HATE. BUKKIT. SERVERS. Needing to apply to a forum page your never going to visit again or paying 5 bucks to play once, get bored/angry And never comeback or have to read WALLS of text and look for secret codes among the rules...
Well shoot, I think you've got the wrong impression of Bukkit, and that's pretty unfortunate. Our server runs on Bukkit, but you don't need to sign up for a forum, or read a list of rules.

Make your own server and play with your friends :smile.gif:

IMO there's very few decent servers out there.

I'm 21, and most of the players on our servers are adults.

Yeah, that's one of the few gripes I have with SMP. Creepers blow up from a RIDICULOUS range!
